Dear Friends,
Confession: I didn’t complete all the required reading in my 10th-grade literature class. Some novels resonated with me, while others left me lost. One of the books I skimmed was Charles Dickens’ A Tale of Two Cities. Though I could summarize it, the line that stayed with me was the opening: “It was the best of times, it was the worst of times…”
Back then, that phrase didn’t mean much to sophomore Trey. But looking back now, I realize it’s always true — life often holds both the best and the worst moments at once.
As an organization that serves fundraisers, Dickens’ words feel especially relevant today. Many nonprofits are working tirelessly to secure the resources they need, often facing unpredictable challenges. The uncertainty of our times can be exhausting, and in the world of fundraising, it can sometimes feel lonely.
That’s why the AFP Fort Worth Metro Chapter is so important. It reminds us that even in what can feel like the “worst of times,” there are bright moments found in community — in people coming together to support each other and learn from one another.
Thank you for being a member of AFP Fort Worth Metro. I’m excited about the year ahead as we start strong with one of our own, Michelle Crim, presenting “Creating a Ten-Minute Stewardship Plan” at our January 12th meeting and sharing insights on the importance of donor retention. I look forward to seeing you and to all the ways we’ll work together to make what can feel like the worst of times, better.
Warmest wishes,
Trey Harper, CFRE
2026 AFP Fort Worth Metro Chapter President
