SEWER RATE INCREASE NOTIFICATION

Lake County Public Works Department is in the third year of the multi-year sewer rate increase that affects the village’s residents and businesses. Hainesville has both the Northeast Central Sewer Region and the Northwest Sewer Region that services the sewer systems. This increase is mandated by the County and is effective with the usage starting on December 1, 2025, and will be reflected in your January 2026 village utility bill.

Northeast Central Sewer Region customers are comprised of the subdivisions of Misty Hill Farms, Deer Point Trails, The Sanctuary and The Settlement. The sewer rate will increase from $7.004 per 1,000 gallons to $7.174 per 1,000 gallons. The total increase is $0.17 per 1,000 gallons.

Northwest Sewer Region customers are comprised of the subdivisions of Union Square townhomes, Cranberry Lake (both single family homes and all townhomes) and the commercial corridor on Routes 120 & 134. The sewer rate will increase from $4.05 per 1,000 gallons to $4.12 per 1,000 gallons. The total increase is $0.07 per 1,000 gallons.

In addition to the Lake County Public Works yearly sewer rate increase, the Northwest Regional Water Reclamation Facility performed a rate study and effective January 1, 2026, those increases will be reflected on the February 2026 village utility bill. This increase will be for those residents and businesses that are serviced by the Northwest Sewer region, noted above, your sewer rate will increase from $4.12 to $6.70 per 1,000 gallons.

WINTER REMINDERS

·    PARKING DURING SNOW REMOVAL - Per Village Ordinance 10.08.040, there is no on-street parking allowed anytime there is a 2" or more snow event, even if you have an overnight parking permit. The exception to this is our residents on Holiday Lane and in our Cranberry Lake North Townhomes. Those townhome residents need to have their vehicles off the street between the hours of Noon and 4:00 p.m. the DAY AFTER the snow event. This will allow our Snow Plow Contractors and Public Works Staff to thoroughly clear the roads.

·    Please make sure your sidewalks that are adjacent to your property lines are free of snow and ice. Please look out for neighbors who may not be able to remove snow on their own by lending a helping hand. Also remember that we have a number of students throughout the Village that have to get to the bus stop. If your sidewalks are not clear, they are forced to walk in the streets which is a danger that can and should be avoided. This is also helpful to our many dog walking residents.

·    It is a violation of Village Ordinance 12.12.060 to snow-blow or shovel snow into the road. If the road isn't plowed yet, it is going to end up back in your driveway. If the roads are plowed, it will create a sloppy and icy mess for vehicles using the street.

·    Snowmobiles or ATV's are not allowed to be used anywhere within the Village limits.

·    Don't let your pipes freeze - With the colder weather setting in, it is important to remember that if you are leaving town for an extended period of time, please let your water drip to help prevent freezing water lines. Keep the house temperature around 60 degrees as this will help ensure that those colder areas where water pipes run through garages and crawl spaces do not experience a pipe burst.

·    Sump pumps and downspouts should not discharge onto either sidewalks or streets as they will freeze and create a dangerous situation.

ICE SAFETY TIPS

With colder temperatures and freezing water in the area, the desire grows for ice skating, fishing and other outdoor activities. It is important that you know how to be sure the ice is safe and have a plan in place in case of an emergency. There are various websites where you can learn all about ice safety.

Here are a few key points:

  • If you plan on going onto ice, bring a buddy and have an emergency plan
  • Measure ice thickness in several locations, wearing a lifejacket in case it breaks
  • Ice can be weakened by freeze/thaw cycles, layers of water or snow in it, or fresh snow on top (which acts as an insulator, warming the ice below)
