The 44th Bi-Annual New Jersey Film Festival returns January 23–February 22, 2026, with screenings on select Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. Presented in a hybrid format, the festival offers both in-person screenings at Rutgers University and virtual viewing, with most films available via video on demand for 24 hours on their scheduled date. The festival is sponsored by the Rutgers Film Co-op/New Jersey Media Arts Center and the Rutgers University Program in Cinema Studies.
Rutgers University–New Brunswick will host its Winter Career & Internship Mega Fair on February 4 and 5, providing students and alumni a prime opportunity to connect with employers from a wide range of industries. The in-person event, held at Jersey Mike’s Arena, brings together more than 300 employers eager to discuss full-time, part-time, and internship opportunities with more than 5,000 candidates from Rutgers campuses, including New Brunswick, Camden, Newark, and Rutgers Health. Registration is required.

Dr. Noam Sienna, the Bildner Center’s Aresty Visiting Scholar, explores Jewish life in the Islamic world through books and other written texts created by Jewish communities across Egypt, the Ottoman Mediterranean, North Africa, and the Middle East. This virtual three-part mini-course offered on January 14, 21, and 28 is cosponsored by the Rutgers Initiative for the Book. Free, but advance registration is required.
On February 4, The Writers at Rutgers series welcomes acclaimed author Lisa Ko for an evening of literary exchange with students, faculty, and the broader community. The event features a reading, Q&A session, book sale and signing, and a catered reception.
Ready to Run® is a nonpartisan campaign training program designed to empower women to run for elective office, pursue appointive roles, work on campaigns, or engage more fully in public life. Open to both experienced community leaders and those just beginning their civic journey, the program offers practical tools and resources for success. The training will take place on March 20–21, 2026. Registration is $175 through February 13 and $225 thereafter.
As a part of New Jersey’s celebration of the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, the New Brunswick Free Public Library will host Maxine N. Lurie, author of Taking Sides in Revolutionary New Jersey: Caught in the Crossfire, on January 17 at 2 p.m. Maxine Lurie is an early American historian, with an interest in the 17th and 18th centuries.

The New Brunswick Department of Human and Community Services has launched its annual Winter Coat Drive to support residents in need during the colder months. Community members are invited to donate new or gently used winter coats for adults and children. The drive runs through January 31, with donations accepted weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Office of Human Services, 25 Kirkpatrick Street, second floor.
