Dear St. Rita School Parents and Guardians,
Please join us for our annual celebration of National Catholic Schools Week, beginning this Sunday, January 26. We will be kicking off Catholic Schools Week (January 26-February 1) with student- led Masses at church. Thank you to the students and families who have volunteered to be lectors at the 11:00 A.M. Mass at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel and 11:30 A.M. Mass at St. Rita. Please help us fill the churches with our St. Rita School families. Students are asked to wear their school uniforms at Mass to show their school pride and receive a free dress down coupon from Fr. Tiano. Please see Mrs. Tiezzi , Sr. Anne or Mrs. Robinson to receive your coupon. Please check the date on the coupon for the no uniform redemption date.
This year’s CSW theme -“Catholic Schools: United in Faith and Community”- highlights our focus on academic excellence, faith development, dedication to community service, and future success. We’ve planned a variety of events to show how we are doing as a community at St. Rita School.
Sunday - Celebrate Our Parish - Please attend either the 11:00 Mass at OLMC or the 11:30 Mass at St. Rita wearing your school uniform. Join us at Sacred Heart Academy beginning at 1:30 P.M. to see our basketball teams in action. Our Girls Varsity plays at 1:30, Boys Varsity at 2:45, and JV Boys at 4:00.
Monday - Celebrate Our Students - Students in kindergarten through eighth grade will put on their bowling shoes and have fun with their friends throwing spares and strikes while leaving no pin standing!!! The PreK classes have a special age-appropriate activity planned for their students.
Tuesday - Celebrate Our Community - The Xavier Jazz band, featuring some of our esteemed alums, will perform for us in an afternoon concert.
Wednesday - Celebrate Our Faculty and Staff - A special treat for the teachers will be provided by STUCO and NJHS . An act of kindness can be having your child write a thank you note to his/her teacher(s).
Thursday - Celebrate Our Vocations - Sr. Anne and Sr. Barbara will be visiting the classrooms and sharing their life story. Sr. Colleen Mattingly, vocations director for the Apostles of the Sacred Heart, will also be speaking with the middle school religion classes.
Friday - Celebrate Our Families/Volunteers - Our Family Faith Activity, which will be sent home this week, is due back to your child’s teacher on Jan. 31. Please take some time over the week to work with your child/children to complete this project. Projects will be displayed outside the classrooms for all to view. Also, STUCO will host a pep rally to recognize the accomplishments of our student athletes, and robotics team, and to help kick off Raise Craze.
Our largest fundraiser of the year, Raise Craze, has officially started. To date 28% of our families have signed up to participate. Thank you for your willingness to get started spreading kindness. Great news - Mrs. Dimesky's class was the first to reach 100% participation, and wins the ice cream social. Mrs. Perrotti's class was the second to reach 100%; they have won a cupcake party. If you haven’t registered yet, please do so at:

With the assistance of the HSA, our teachers have many fun kindness activities planned for their students, but we encourage your family to spread kindness to people and organizations you interact with daily as well. Be sure to reach out to your friends and family, near and far, and ask for their assistance to help HSA reach their goal of $35,000. Together we can do this!
Today marks the midway point of the second trimester. I am somewhat concerned about the number of students who have poor grades due to incomplete work. Responsibility for completing and turning in one’s work is critical to success in school. We have many students who make excuses for not doing their work - I forgot, I was so busy with dance, hockey, basketball, the play, etc. Students who participate in school-sponsored extracurricular activities (sports and clubs) may not be allowed to participate if their grades are not above 70%. Please encourage your child to follow-up with their teacher(s) regarding their poor grades. Have them stay for extra help. Parents of students in grades 4-8 are able to view student grades via our FACTS Parent Portal at anytime. Please make an effort to do so regularly.
Together teachers, administrators, staff, students, and parents fuel the light of faith by working to build a spirit of the gospel to benefit the human family. Thank you for your continued support of our wonderful school.
God Bless,
Mrs. Tiezzi
