January Town Council Meeting Highlights

At the Town Council meeting last week, the Council took the following action:

  • Discussed the Housing Sites Inventory and the community engagement that went into collecting ideas for this process. The Council asked that sites #4 (St.Rita's) and #15 (Jolly Hill) be removed from the list and that two other sites be added for review.

  • Adopted an urgency ordinance regarding ADUs to comply with State regulations.

  • Discussed short term rentals in the Town and options to regulate them. Directed Staff to move forward with the recommendations in the Staff Report and come back to the Council at a future meeting to take action.

  • Moved the Planning Commission’s regular meetings to the fourth Friday of every month, beginning February 24th.

Public Works Update

We are happy to report that we expect construction work on Sir Francis Drake to be complete today! We still need to do final inspections but the road is open and safe for driving. Thank you to the community for your patience as we made sure this stretch of road was as safe as possible moving forward.

Town Council approved three contracts at its January 19, 2022 meeting for continued progress on a project to seismically retrofit the Town’s iconic Pavilion. As indicated on the Town’s project webpage.
The Town is the beneficiary of a significant grant from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), and combined with Town funds, the project will retrofit the building to make it more resilient and resistant to damage from earthquake and high winds while bringing it into compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act.

The three contracts approved will result in an agreement between the Town and the Federated Indians of Graton Rancheria for treatment of tribal cultural resources and tribal monitoring during construction, continued retention of the archeologist that has aided the Town in getting to approval for construction for services during construction, and a specialty consultant to assist in the preparation of bid documents for foundation replacement as the first phase of actual construction.

For questions about the project, please contact Jonathon Goldman, PE – Interim Public Works Director.
