OUR MISSION:

St. Rita School inspires students in Pre-Kindergarten through grade eight to achieve academic excellence in a safe, nurturing and faith-filled Catholic environment.

We prepare students to be morally responsible, innovative thinkers who, in today’s technology-guided global community, live and share the Love of Christ.

From the Desk of Mrs. Tiezzi

Dear SRS Parents and Guardians,

I’m sure you were all caught off guard this morning by the late notification of an unexpected early dismissal day and so was I. We were notified at 7:15 this morning that for the safety of our students, due to the impending inclement weather, that schools in Hamden would dismiss early. We tried to notify our families through text, voicemail, and email along with a handwritten signboard in the drop off line, and Mr. Steve personally speaking to our parents. Hopefully every family was notified. I do apologize for the short notice and hope that future notifications will be made by Hamden in a timelier manner.

The nationwide celebration of Catholic Schools Week begins next week. Due to a scheduling conflict at the church we needed to postpone our school-wide family Mass until the following Sunday, February 5, 2023, at 11:30 at St. Rita Church. There will be a ‘coffee and’ especially for our school families in the church basement following the Mass.  Our school families are invited to attend the coffee-and which is being sponsored by the Alpha program members. I would like to invite all our school families to join us as we celebrate our school, its students, and their families, by attending both these events. Sr. Anne is looking for some student lectors (Grs. 6-8) and altar servers for the Mass. Please contact her if your child is interested in assisting. Students are asked to wear their school uniforms to Mass to show their school pride and receive a free dress down day coupon from Fr. Tiano. Please see Mrs. Tiezzi or Mrs. Robinson at Mass to receive your coupon.

Earlier this week there was a medical emergency at the house abutting our school parking lot. A fire truck and two other emergency vehicles responded. It occurred on a rainy day close to dismissal time with many of our parents illegally parked on both sides of the Dessa Drive. Please review the attached traffic map and park only in those designated areas. Thank you for your cooperation.

This past Monday a reenrollment survey form was sent out to all school families as we have started planning for the 2023-2024 school year. We have been discussing many exciting initiatives for next school year and I am hoping that you and your family will be part of it. However, as we move forward toward making preparations for next year, we need to better understand the status of your child's re-enrollment at St. Rita School. Kindly click here to fill out the form if you have not yet done so.

Registration for new students for the upcoming 2023-2024 school year is currently open to our school families. If you have another child you would like to have join our school community for next year, please contact Mrs. Bruno, our admissions director, for the registration information. Re-enrollment for current students will not take place until early March.

Thank you for entrusting your child/ren to our care. Hopefully, you can get out and play in the snow with them during this unexpected “free” afternoon.

God Bless,

Mrs. Tiezzi

Inclement Weather

With the winter season quickly approaching, our thoughts turn to snow days. We have 5 inclement weather days built into our school calendar so we will be taking snow days this winter. Snow days are a childhood tradition and are meant to be a day children can sleep in and then go outside to play in the snow. Should we have a more severe winter and exceed our 5 snow days, we will consult with our central office and make a decision regarding next steps.

When school is dismissed early due to inclement weather, there will be no after care.

When school is delayed due to inclement weather, before care will still operate, beginning at 7 am, at a cost of $15.

St. Rita School follows the Hamden Public School system regarding snow days. If Hamden Public Schools are closed, St. Rita School will be closed. Closings will be listed on WTNH Channel 8, WFSB Channel 3, and WVIT Channel 30.

You will also be notified via School Messenger in a text,

phone call, and email.
