Time: 12:00 p.m. - 1:00 p.m.
Location: Online webinar
Presenters: Rafi Stern, Staff Attorney and Elizabeth Wytock, Staff Attorney
This webinar provides an overview of fiscal sponsorship, which allows a non-tax-exempt organization to fundraise and operate under the umbrella of a tax-exempt, 501(c)(3) organization which acts as the fiscal sponsor. Topics covered include fiscal sponsorship structuring options, the advantages and disadvantages of fiscal sponsorships (especially for small organizations), and common legal issues in such arrangements. New organizations and charitable projects can benefit from fiscal sponsorship, but so can organizations trying to preserve their programs by increasing fundraising partnerships, cutting back office service expenses, or collaborating with a new fiscal sponsor.

NYS Joint Legislative Hearing on the Executive Budget
Following Governor Kathy Hochul's release of the Executive Budget for Fiscal Year 2025, the State Legislature has announced the joint legislative hearing schedule on the FY25 Executive Budget Proposal. These hearings, each of which focuses on a programmatic area of the Executive Budget Proposal, are opportunities for the public to provide input and advocate for your budget priorities.
Requests to testify must be made by submitting a Hearing Request Form on the dates listed in the chart linked here. If you are unable to attend and testify in person in Albany, you can still submit written testimony. Providing testimony is extremely important to advocating for your budget priorities as it lets legislators know what your organization and communities care about as they negotiate and pass a budget.

ATTENTION Cultural institutions: There is a grant opportunity through the Public Humanities Projects program! This initiative supports projects that bring humanities ideas to life for diverse audiences via engaging public programming. Emphasizing engagement with humanities scholarship, projects explore significant themes in history, literature, ethics, and art history.
Awards are designed to reach broad and diverse public audiences in non-classroom settings across the United States. The program supports projects in three categories—Exhibitions, Historic Places, and Humanities Discussions—offering funding at two levels: Planning and Implementation. Consider integrating complementary components, like a museum exhibition accompanied by a website or mobile app.
Project topics can be international, national, regional, or local in focus. Local projects should connect to broader themes or historical questions of regional or national relevance. If your project doesn't address wider regional or national concerns, explore local funding sources, such as state humanities councils.
Award amounts vary based on the project’s scope and expected audiences, with a special encouragement for small and mid-sized organizations to apply. Tailor your humanities project for specific groups, including families, youth (K-12 students in informal educational settings), underserved communities, and veterans.
Don't miss this opportunity to bring your cultural institution's vision to life and apply today!
