Caltrain Electrification Project to Cause Lane Closures in Redwood City through February 3
Caltrain will be performing utility potholing work in Redwood City between January 23 and February 3, which will require partial closures of the Whipple Avenue, Stafford Street, and Arguello Street railroad crossing to vehicle and pedestrian traffic. The work will take place between 7 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. on Mondays through Fridays only. Construction signs and illuminated directional signs will direct the merging of closed lanes along these streets to open lanes. Traffic cones will be placed on Whipple Avenue to mark the lane closures, with only one side of the lanes and sidewalks along Stafford and Arguello at Whipple Avenue closed at a time to allow one side to remain open during construction.

In addition to the daytime work, crews may also be working along the Caltrain corridor to install infrastructure outside of the closure hours noted above. Work may take place during the day and at night, with night work occurring between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. There may also be occasional 24-hour work on weekends. Caltrain will work with contractors to minimize night work to limit the impact to surrounding communities; however, some work must be performed at night in order to maintain regular Caltrain service. To mitigate noise and other impacts during night activities, the field team will utilize acoustical noise barrier blankets and will position lights away from residential and business areas. A dedicated project hotline and email have been established for residents to contact with any concerns about potential impacts. Additionally, Caltrain will make every effort to notify residents and businesses in the affected areas in advance of any nighttime or weekend work.

COVID-19 Updates
COVID-19 Testing
Testing remains an important strategy in continuing to reduce the spread of the disease and to protect individuals who have not been vaccinated. Testing is available for all ages, including young children and infants, and all testing sites now use more comfortable testing methods by swabbing the front part of the nose or mouth.

People who are vaccinated or unvaccinated should get tested if they have symptoms of COVID-19. Unvaccinated persons should get tested if they have had close contact with someone with COVID-19 or have concerns about being infected or exposed.

See smcgov.org/testing for more information about locations and schedules. In addition to these sites, testing is also available from health care providers and other community organizations.
