Annual Global Mission Weekend
February 11-12, 2023
Last January, Global Mission Chair Rev. Katie Carroll told us about how we at Hope Lutheran Church have been key to the ELCA Florida-Bahamas Synod’s support of five companion congregations within the Caribbean Basin: Cuba, Guyana, Haiti, Jamaica, and Suriname.
On February 11-12, 2023, we'll hear the latest updates from Rev. Russell Meyer of Jacksonville now that he, Pastor Katie and others have been able to personally visit the Jamaican and Cuban congregations after three years of solely virtual contact due to pandemic travel restrictions. Read more in Global Mission Table News Fall 2022 – Issue #24 below.
Rev. Meyer will preach at all of the services at Hope Central Campus that weekend. We’ll learn about the hopefulness some of our fellow Lutherans are experiencing despite the heartaches of geo-political and societal turmoil, compounded by natural disasters. Hope Lutheran Church has designated Cuba as the country of focus for 2023. Although U.S. government sanctions prohibit many forms of engagement with Cuba, there are specific exceptions carved out allowing U.S. persons to “support the Cuban people,” such as through religious missions.
Plan to also attend the Sunday hospitality hour between 9:00-10:00am at Hope Central Campus to enjoy some added Latin American flavor and for a meet and greet with Rev. Meyer!

Women of Hope Retreat at Luther Springs
April 11, 12 & 13, 2023
| |
|
The Women of Hope invite all women to join their next retreat on April 11-13, 2023 at Luther Springs in Hawthorne, Florida.
The theme for this year's retreat is "Cafe Chocolat". It will be a time to relax with friends, share laughter, stories and of course a few bites of chocolate. We will enjoy time with each other as we delight in God's grace.
This year, the Women of Hope are pleased to introduce our speaker for the retreat – Kathy Uffelman, Minister of Faith Formation, Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Vienna, Virginia. Kathy Uffelman has been a Minister of Faith Formation for 16 years at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Vienna, Virginia. She enjoys cooking, reading, and going to the theater. She volunteers at a homeless shelter in Fairfax, Virginia. Kathy leads retreats for people of all ages - adults and children - and she is a Stephen Minister Leader, facilities caring ministry, and is passionate about her faith.
Registration forms are available at the Hope Central Campus office. You could also print out a registration form by clicking the link below. Details regarding the retreat, such as time, cost, location, and how to remit can be found on this form. If you have questions, please contact Virginia Robertson, luvbutkus@aol.com or (612) 619-0220.

New Blessing of the Animals Team Leader Needed
Do you love animals? Are you looking for a new and exciting way to serve Hope Lutheran Church?
We are currently seeking a new leader for our Blessing of the Animals Team! The leader will be responsible for organizing the event and volunteers with the help of the office staff. Without a leader, this group will be forced to cease and we will no longer be able to hold the annual Blessing of the Animals.
Blessing of the Animals is a large-scale event held every fall at Hope. The event brings visitors and vendors from around the local area to our church to provide animal blessings and raise money for the humane society.
No experience is necessary! If possible, multiple leaders may be utilized. If you are interested in learning more, please call the church office at (352) 750-2321.
