Introducing Partner Spotlight!

Monthly Partner Spotlight: A New Leaf
Over 100 Campus Clients Housed Annually via Rapid Rehousing Program
A New Leaf’s (ANL) Rapid Rehousing program, operating out of the Lodestar Day Resource Center, serves individuals currently experiencing homelessness. With funding from the Arizona Department of Housing and Maricopa County, ANL houses over 100 individuals annually. Rapid Rehousing provides a household with short term rent subsidy and case management services. The ANL staff works closely with the participants and landlords to assist with locating appropriate housing for that individual’s needs. Intake Specialist, Julie Solis, works closely with Campus staff to locate and connect with participants to complete a program intake quickly. The participant is then assigned to Housing Navigator, Mela White, who focuses her efforts on assisting the participant with locating an affordable unit that will work for the participant during our short term subsidy and then after the subsidy ends. Once housed, the participant is assigned to one of two Housing Case Managers Earnestine Curry and Angel Ocegueda. The Housing Case Managers tailor their services to meet the individual’s needs to assist with increasing income and their self-sufficiency to remain housed long term.

Birdies for Charity Pledges: Make one Today!
You may not be able to attend the 2021 Waste Management Phoenix Open in person this year due to COVID-19 and limited attendance restrictions, but you can still watch it on TV, have some fun AND help our clients experiencing homelessness. How? Simply make a pledge for every birdie made during the competitive rounds of the tournament (Feb 4th - 7th), and all of the proceeds will go directly to the HSC. In fact, Thunderbirds Charities will add a 10% bonus for all of your combined pledges to the HSC! Please make your pledges by 5pm on Feb.7th. Click Here to Learn More.
Saturday, February 6th is our
First Bottled Water Drive in 2021
While the HSC and our Campus partners are always in need of bottled water, the pandemic is requiring us to start our ThirstAid campaign early this year. CDC guidelines for distancing and sanitation prevent us from offering refillable water stations. Therefore, we need your help to provide water for our collective clients.

Our next bottled water donation drop-off at 15th Avenue & Harrison is Saturday, February 6th from 9am to noon, and it couldn’t be easier. You pull up and our staff will remove the donations from your vehicle. Call Ivan Orozco at 602-282-0849 or email [email protected] for more information.

You may also contribute online and help us purchase water in bulk at https://donorbox.org/hsc.
City Council Hearing for more Shelter Beds is February 3rd at 2:30pm
Thank you for continuing to support our efforts to add shelter beds. After two years of outreach, planning and hard work, we are excited to be preparing for our formal City Council hearing on February 3rd at 2:30pm.

During the hearing, Councilmembers will review our appeal of the Planning Commission’s decision, which includes a new set of stipulations which limit our ability to serve the most vulnerable of people. Planning Commission members introduced stipulations which also contradict some of the previously approved stipulations by the City of Phoenix staff.

We know that the language of the stipulations can be hard to understand. We know that the formal hearing process with the City of Phoenix can be confusing. We know that there have been a lot of setbacks and frustrations since filing our request in January of 2019. As we prepare for our City Council hearing, we know this is a good time to take a step back and remind ourselves of what is most important: our unsheltered neighbors and doing everything we can to bring them #FromStreettoHome. For a look into why this is important to us, feel free to read this op-ed piece published in the Arizona Republic about the desperate need for shelter beds.

It’s not too late to reach out to express your support for our case. If you haven’t already, please visit our website (www.fromstreettohome.org) to sign the petition and submit a letter of support. When you submit the letter of support, please be sure to include your own personal comments of why this matters to you.
