St Paul Lutheran Church, Ridgefield, is located on the original and ancestral homelands of the Mohican, Munsee, Lenape, and Schaghticoke peoples, and we give thanks for their presence here since time immemorial. We also wish to recognize and honor all our Indigenous siblings who have and continue to call this land their home.

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.  He was in the beginning with God.  All things came into being through him, and without him not one thing came into being.

John 1: 1- 3

Prayer of the Day

Almighty God, you have filled all the earth with the light of your incarnate Word. By your grace empower us to reflect your light in all that we do, through Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.

Amen.

from the Pastor...

Our reading from John this Second Sunday of Christmas, reminds us in soaring words the simple yet impossible to believe truth - Jesus has come to live among us.  Jesus, as an old hymn points out, left his ‘rainbow encircled throne’ to not settle into a comfortable palace, or perhaps, a country estate, but to be with us; first in the small world of Palestine, of Jerusalem, in the dusty, smelly, loud streets, and now, after his death, resurrection and ascension, to be with us always until he comes again.

What a sense of gratitude this should invoke in us!  What a sense of humility should be our covering, for, who are we, that God should be mindful of us; who are we, that Godself should consider us important enough to wish to have a meaningful, ongoing, loving relationship with us?

As our new year begins, and we make all kinds of resolutions, my prayer for us all is that on this quiet, second Sunday, this post New Year’s Day revelry, that we thank God for the love that has been given us, a love so strong that we must share it with our neighbors:  God loves you too.

Generosity

Mandatory withdrawals from an IRA are called Required Minimum Distributions (RMDs), which are minimum amounts that must be withdrawn annually from traditional IRAs, SEP IRAs, and SIMPLE IRAs once you reach age 73.

You can use a required minimum distribution (RMD) to benefit your church by making a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD), which is a direct donation from your IRA to the church. To do this, contact your IRA custodian and have them send a check directly to the church. This method can reduce your taxable income, as the donation is excluded from your gross income.

We thank you for supporting St. Paul with your intentional and loving gifts, which you can make either in person at worship, through Tithley, Thrivent ( link on the church website),

or mail your offering to: St. Paul Lutheran Church 941 Slocum Ave Ridgefield, NJ 07657.

Thank you for your generosity and being a part of transforming our world!

We are feeding and clothing our neighbors; in the past few months, we have fed over 1,000 people per month.

We can't do this ministry without your generous support!

St. Paul recalls…

Following the sale of the 61 Church Street property in September 2021 for $2.2 million, that same month, at the annual congregational meeting, the congregation voted to move its worship services and set up offices at Zion Lutheran Church in Ridgefield, New Jersey, which was planning to close. Subsequently, at a special congregational meeting in February 2022, the congregation voted to purchase the Zion/Ridgefield property for $755,000. Later that year, in recognition of and with thanksgiving for Zion’s ministry, the chapel at St. Paul’s was dedicated as Zion Chapel.

Love in Action/

Social Ministry

We are so grateful for partners and concerned businesses and individuals who so generously give to the food pantry.  We know the need will only continue to grow, especially with the advent  of cold weather and the uncertainty of help from government agencies tasked with combatting food insecurity.

Our feeding programs, under Patricia’s management, are committed to feeding our neighbors. While we will no longer publicly post information about our programs, we are still feeding people.
