January 6 Greetings
Dear Ones,

Hugs to you all on the first Wednesday of the New Year! Today I am delighted to introduce many of you to Glenn and Janice, part of our December New Member class! They wrote their own bio, so I’ve made only a few adjustments.
Originally, Glenn is from Washington State and Janice is from Wisconsin. They both are pretty much lifelong Lutherans.

Glenn earned a business degree and sold research equipment before God called him into ministry. After completing seminary, Glenn moved to Wisconsin, which is where he met Janice.
Janice started her career as a Physical Therapist with a BS, and MS in Physical Therapy. After ten years of clinical practice, she entered academics and taught in an entry-level Physical Therapy program. While teaching she earned her PhD in neuroscience and performed research.

Janice and Glenn met on the internet, before it was cool to do so, and will be married for twenty-two years in March. They moved to Arizona nearly twelve years ago by way of Ohio where they lived for four years. While they were living in Ohio, Janice felt a call to ministry to become a Deacon, serving in congregations for six years. Here’s an article from “Living Lutheran” about Deacons.
Minister of word and service: Deacon - Living Lutheran

Jesus uses the word diakoneo about himself: "I am among you as one who serves" ( Luke 22:27). Deacon! Servant! Through the crucified and risen Christ, we are called to be a missional, diaconal church with a prophetic voice to love with...

In the fall, they moved to Prescott from Maricopa when they retired: Glenn in August after thirty-six years of pastoral ministry, and Janice is currently is on leave from call. When asked about their various church involvements, they replied, “Since we’ve been in ministry together, we’ve pretty much done it all!”
Football is their favorite sport and “of course we follow the Seahawks and Packers!” They both enjoy playing pickleball and look forward to being able to do that again when it is safe! They also like to read, camp, hike, bike, and do pretty much anything outdoors. They have a cat named Tamali. Glenn has a Lego hobby and Janice enjoys sewing and "plunking on her piano".
Janice and Glenn love to travel and explore, and are looking forward to doing that again. On their list is to visit all the National Parks as they head back to the Midwest to visit their daughter, Abby, in Chicago; and son Paul, his wife, Erin, and their two-year-old granddaughter, Elodie, in Madison, WI.

“In celebration of our twentieth anniversary, we spent eighteen days in May of 2019 cruising the Mediterranean. We started in Barcelona and ended in Athens. An awesome trip and we can’t wait to go back!”
Thank you for sharing, Janice and Glenn; welcome to our Emmanuel family!

Janice and Glenn's selection of Bible verse for today:

For I know the plans I have for you says the Lord.
Plans for good, not evil, to give you a future and a hope.
 Jer. 29.11
Yours in Christ,
Kimberly & Ethan (who loved watching his dad put Christmas lights away!)
