This Weekly Update by the Illinois School and Campus Safety Program links to resources for National Stalking Awareness Month, and promotes the upcoming virtual classes on wellness, railroad safety, understanding and planning for school bombing incidents, and digital threat assessment.

National Stalking Awareness Month

January is National Stalking Awareness Month. According to the Stalking Prevention, Awareness, and Resource Center (SPARC), one in six women and one in seventeen men have experience stalking, and one in seven victims move as a result of being stalked. SPARC's National Stalking Awareness Month's page features resources for learning, teaching, sharing, and reflecting, including webinars, fact sheets, brochures, infographics, videos, social media content, pledge sheets, and more.
Preparing for the Unimaginable: An In-Depth Look at Wellness, Trauma Recovery, and Resilience on January 26th via Zoom

The Illinois School and Campus Safety Program is pleased to announce a session of the class Preparing for the Unimaginable: An In-Depth Look at Wellness, Trauma Recovery, and Resilience on January 26th from 8:30 am to 12:30 pm via Zoom. This class is for both K-12 schools and Institutions of Higher Education, as well as law enforcement and other school and campus safety stakeholders. Professional development hours will be available for educators seeking them from the Rock Island County Regional Office of Education (there is a fee from the ROE for the professional development hours). Railroad Safety for First Responders, Educators, and School Bus Drivers on January 27th via Zoom

The Illinois School and Campus Safety Program is pleased to announce the class "Railroad Safety for First Responders, Educators, and School Bus Drivers" will be held via Zoom on January 27th from 9am-12pm. The class covers the challenges that frontline responders and school staff are faced with when responding to an incident on or near railroad property. This 3-hour class will prepare all involved (bus drivers, school administrators, law enforcement, first responders, etc.) and will provide responding individuals the correct tools to safely navigate the unfamiliar environment of the railroad. Understanding and Planning for School Bombing Incidents on February 16th
via Zoom

The Illinois School and Campus Safety Program is pleased to announce the class "Understanding and Planning for School Bombing Incidents" will be held on February 16th from 8:30 am-12:30 pm via Zoom. The Understanding and Planning for School Bombing Incidents course is specifically tailored for prevention and response to school bombing incidents. For more information and to register, click here.
