"Where everybody is somebody, and Jesus is Lord!"
The Time After Epiphany

The Baptism Of Our Lord
Sunday, January 9th

Issue Of: January 7, 2022

Then Jesus came from Galilee to John at the Jordan, to be baptized by him. John would have prevented him, saying, “I need to be baptized by you, and do you come to me?” But Jesus answered him, “Let it be so now; for it is proper for us in this way to fulfill all righteousness.”
Matthew 3:13-15 NRSV

From The Pastor's Desk:
Stories are one of the most powerful tools we have as human beings. Stories hold our attention, they widen our perspective, they make us ask questions, and they help us explain, to ourselves and others, who we are. Here's an example: in the midst of an argument, stop and tell the other person, "The story in my head right now is..." and let them do the same. Almost always, this simple phrase will open communication and help you form a new and better story together.
|
|
During the next 8 Sundays, our worship will have special segments called "Tell Me A Story" that bring Bible stories to life. By the end of February, those in worship (in-person or online) will have explored most of the key stories in Scripture. Whether you know the Bible back-to-front or you've never been to a Vacation Bible School, you are guaranteed to come away with new appreciation for the many stories of God's love in the Bible and how they hold together to craft a saving narrative for all of God's creation.
Join us in worship, then, to increase your Biblical literacy and to hear again and anew how God's love for you is transformative and hope-filled. If you would like to help be a storyteller, email me at pastor@lordlife.us to get a script and a date. We also have Bible trivia packs available in the narthex for all ages. Your Church leaders are excited about this time of learning and growing - of Epiphany bringing those "a-ha" moments to how you see the Bible and the God it reveals to us.
Peace,
Pastor Wendolyn

Update:
Now Resuming
Tuesday January 18th, At 7:00 PM
And
Wednesday, January 19th, at 11:00 AM
Both evening and daytime Bible Study will be held each week in Fellowship Hall. We will be using Breaking the Code, Revised Edition by Bruce Metzger for these sessions. This is a 6 week study using a DVD.
The Book of Revelation contains passages of great beauty and comfort, as well as passages that strike the casual reader as bizarre, bewildering, and sometimes frightening. Breaking the Code, Revised Edition provides a trustworthy guide to the rich symbolism of this important biblical book. Noted biblical scholar Bruce M. Metzger presents the fruits of solid scholarship in a non-academic style. This revised edition includes updates based on current biblical research, as well as additional teaching from author and respected New Testament scholar David deSilva.
This link below has videos with information about the study.

Book Club
Tuesday, January 18th, 1:00 PM
We will be discussing The Book Woman of Troublesome Creek by Kim Michele Richardson at our January 18th meeting. Here is a description:
In 1936, tucked deep into the woods of Troublesome Creek, KY, lives blue-skinned 19-year-old Cussy Carter, the last living female of the rare Blue People ancestry. The lonely young Appalachian woman joins the historical Pack Horse Library Project of Kentucky and becomes a librarian, riding across slippery creek beds and up treacherous mountains on her faithful mule to deliver books and other reading material to the impoverished hill people of Eastern Kentucky. Along her dangerous route, Cussy, known to the mountain folk as Bluet, confronts those suspicious of her damselfly-blue skin and the government's new book program. She befriends hardscrabble and complex fellow Kentuckians, and is fiercely determined to bring comfort and joy, instill literacy, and give to those who have nothing, a bookly respite, a fleeting retreat to faraway lands.

From The Editors:
LifeLines Ending Song:
We are in the part of the church year known as the Time After Epiphany which is also called by many as the Season Of Epiphany. Some songs are used both during the Christmas Season and Epiphany by Christians. Here is one of them with a Calypso flair sung by the Cantico Singers, a small ensemble from Portland, Oregon. Enjoy!
The Editors wish you our best for a Blessed and Happy New Year!
