OUR MISSION:
St. Rita School inspires students in Pre-Kindergarten through grade eight to achieve academic excellence in a safe, nurturing and faith-filled Catholic environment.
We prepare students to be morally responsible, innovative thinkers who, in today’s technology-guided global community, live and share the Love of Christ.
FROM THE DESK OF MRS. TIEZZI

Dear St. Rita Parents,

I would like to thank you all for the generosity you showed during the holiday season. Your contributions to the Advent Giving Tree, faculty and staff Christmas gift, as well as, providing baked goods and individual teacher and staff gifts were overwhelming and greatly appreciated. The St. Rita School community is very special and very generous. Thank you.

We welcome back Mrs. Kathy Halloran who will be taking over health classes on Fridays. I am currently interviewing candidates for the PE position recently vacated. If you know of any qualified candidates with a background and certification in physical education please have them contact me. This position is for a long-term substitute teacher Monday through Thursday only.

Now that we are in the winter season this is a gentle reminder that St. Rita School follows the decision of the Hamden Superintendent of Schools regarding delayed openings, early closings or closure due to inclement weather. Once we are notified of their decision we will notify you via email and/or phone or text messages. We will also notify local news stations regarding our status. You are able to receive notification from the local stations on your phone by signing up for text alerts on the TV stations website.

Please join us for our annual celebration of National Catholic Schools Week, beginning on Sunday, January 26. We will be kicking off Catholic Schools Week (January 26-February 1) with two student led Masses. The 9:00 Mass on Sunday, January 26 at St. Stephen Church and the 11:30 Mass on Sunday, January 26 at St. Rita Church. Students are asked to wear their school uniforms to show their school pride to either Mass and receive a free dress day coupon from Msgr. Joe. Please see Mrs. Tiezzi, Sr. Anne or Mrs. Testa at Mass to receive your coupon.

This year’s CSW theme-“Catholic Schools: Learn, Serve, Lead, Succeed”-highlights our focus on academic excellence, faith development, dedication to community service and future success. We’ve planned a variety of events to show how we are doing as a community at St. Rita School.  Please save Friday, January 31 during your child’s lunch/recess period to come have lunch and a special dessert treat with your child. Due to space constraints we are asking that only one parent per child attend.
A more detailed listing of the CSW activities will be sent home in next week’s newsletter.
Thank you for entrusting your child/ren to our care. Have a great week.

God Bless,
Mrs. Tiezzi

School News
Dear Mrs. Tiezzi, Sr. Anne, Mrs. Testa, Teachers, Administrators, Parents and Students,

Once again, we are truly overwhelmed by the extreme generosity of the St. Rita School Community during the Christmas season! As the last family picked up their packages this evening I was struck by how such a seemingly small gesture, a few dollars of a donation, can make such a monumental change to a family - many of which were reluctant to accept our help - many of them kept repeating there are others that need it more - and yet when I handed over the bags and bags of gifts there were tears in their eyes as they realized how much easier this would make it for their family this year. From the bottom of my heart and on behalf of our families that you have assisted, I thank you for your kindness and generosity and wish you a Merry Christmas with your own families,

Does Your Company Offer Volunteer Grants?
Volunteer grant programs, also known as “Dollars for Doers” programs, are corporate giving programs created to encourage volunteerism in communities where employees live and work.
Through these programs, companies provide monetary grants to organizations where employees volunteer regularly.

Please take a moment and ask if your employer participates in a Volunteer Grants Program. Your time and talent at St. Rita School could turn into dollars for our school! Questions? Feel free to contact Joanne Bruno at  jbruno.stritaschool@gmail.com .
The Box Tops for Education program is changing the way we can earn cash for our school

Over the summer, participating brands began to change their packaging from the traditional Box Tops clip to the new Box Tops label. Going forward, instead of clipping from packages and checking expiration dates, all Box Tops will be earned digitally by scanning your receipt. The Box Tops for Education team has worked hard to build a NEW-and-improved, user-friendly Box Tops mobile app , available now. The new app features state-of-the-art technology that allows you to scan your store receipt, find participating products and instantly add Box Tops to our school's earnings online.

If you still have traditional Box Tops clips at home, make sure to send them to school. We will still earn cash for all clipped Box Tops until they expire. Better yet, you can “double dip” during the packaging transition by clipping traditional Box Tops AND scanning your store receipt containing participating products.

Visit amazonsmile.com , and anytime you purchase an eligible item, Amazon will donate a portion of the profit to our school! Select “Divine Mercy Parish
