Weekly Update - January 7, 2022
All Covid-19 Test Kits Have Been Distributed
From Our Office
This week we received 800 COVID Test Kits. All have already been distributed. We hope to keep getting shipments but they are dependent upon availability. This week's shipment was from the Federal Government.

The County is also expecting a separate shipment from the State that will be distributed at County Libraries. We will provide that distribution information when it becomes available to us.

More reliable PCR testing continues to be available for free at various County sites. More information about where to get tested can be found here: coronavirus.cchealth.org/get-tested.
Shorter Isolation and Quarantine Periods for the General Public
Contra Costa County is aligning with new state guidance that allows for shorter isolation and quarantine periods for people who have been infected with or exposed to COVID-19. The state’s new rules are similar to the CDC’s recently revised guidance but add a testing requirement to shorten isolation or quarantine.

People Who Test Positive (Isolation)
  • Isolate for at least 5 days (previously, it was a 10-day minimum)
  • Can end isolation if a test collected on or after day 5 is negative and the person doesn’t have symptoms or symptoms are resolving. An over-the-counter antigen test can be used to end isolation
  • Those who don’t take a test must isolate for 10 days
  • Wear a well-fitting mask around others for a total of 10 days, especially in indoor settings

People Exposed to Someone with COVID-19 (Quarantine)
If unvaccinated or not boosted but eligible for booster:
  • Stay home for at least 5 days after your last contact with a person with COVID-19. Test on day 5
  • Quarantine can end after day 5 if symptoms are not present and the test taken on or after day 5 is negative. An over-the-counter antigen test can be used to end quarantine
  • Those who don’t take a test must quarantine 10 days
  • Wear a well-fitting mask around others for a total of 10 days, especially in indoor settings

People who have gotten a booster shot or are fully vaccinated and not yet eligible for a booster do not have to quarantine following an exposure. However, they should get tested 5 days after they were exposed to be safe.

These guidelines are for the general public and not healthcare workers, who have their own isolation and quarantine guidance. Workers and K-12 students should also check with their employers and schools about requirements for returning to school or work since state guidance may differ for those settings.

Indoor Mask Mandate - Religious Gatherings and
Arts Performances
As of Dec. 29, 2021, Contra Costa County requires all people in Contra Costa, regardless of vaccination status, to mask in public indoor settings.

Religious gatherings remain exempt from the masking requirement to the extent that removal of face coverings is necessary for participation in a religious activity.

Also, in alignment with state guidance, performers at indoor live or recorded settings or events such as music concerts or theatrical plays are not required to wear masks.

COVID-19 vaccines, including booster doses, continue to offer the most effective protection against hospitalization and death from all variants of COVID-19 circulating in the county.

Visit coronavirus.cchealth.org/get-vaccinated for information on healthcare providers, pharmacies, and clinics offering COVID-19 vaccinations and booster shots. No-cost vaccinations and boosters are also available through CCHS’ public clinics by calling 1-8-33-829-2626.

The requirements for lifting the indoor masking order will remain the same and progress can be tracked on our Indoor Mask Dashboard.
Appointments Now Required at Contra Costa Health Services COVID-19 Testing Sites
Appointments are required to get a COVID-19 test at CCHS test sites in Richmond & San Ramon. Schedule online here schedule appointment or call 833-829-2626.

Due to a sharp increase in demand this week, appointments are now required at Contra Costa Health Services' (CCHS) community COVID-19 testing locations in Richmond and San Ramon.

CCHS is working to build COVID-19 testing capacity throughout the county. The State has significantly increased capacity at its sites in Pleasant Hill, Antioch, Brentwood, and San Pablo.

The state has deployed one mobile vaccine team in Contra Costa County, allowing CCHS to reassign county staff who were providing vaccinations to testing sites. The state team will be deployed in our county through the end of January.

CCHS previously offered testing to those without appointments as capacity permitted. Until further notice, appointments will be required for tests at the clinics, at 25th St. and Nevin Ave. in Richmond and 2600 Camino Ramon in San Ramon.

Appointments for testing at these locations are available online or by calling 1-833-829-2626. Appointments for testing at state-operated clinics in Antioch, Brentwood, Pleasant Hill, and San Pablo are also available online or by calling 1-833-829-2626.

Community healthcare providers may also offer testing services to their patients and members. Home test kits may also be available for sale at drugstores and online commercial sites.
