Also on view: Night Visions explores why artists are drawn to the dark; Arriving Somewhere, But Not Here dives into mysteries between life and death; El Albañil unites printmaking inspired by a grandfather’s legacy of tile creations.

Divergent Sounds: Soleo Meets the Symphony

JAN 30 Soleo came together after vocalist/guitarist Amir Gholizadeh created and shared his own bizarre guitar-tuning style with his now-bandmates Tynan Evans (bass) and Nick Golias (drums). That, and a concept about Gholizadeh’s family history, became the inspiration for their unconventional sound, oftentimes labeled as “Middle Eastern progressive rock.”

The exhibit is curated by local artist and executive director of Patina Arts Centre, Alaska Thompson. This exciting exploration of texture and form in contemporary art will open with a reception on Tuesday, January 16, from 6 to 8:30 p.m., in the new Cultural Center Gallery.
