Let's Welcome Stephanie Mathias!
Hi UME Master Gardeners,

Please welcome Stephanie Mathias to our UME Master Gardener Team!

Stephanie became our new UME Master Gardener State Coordinator in January 2019. She is excited to be a part of the UME Master Gardener team and is eager to meet all the UME Master Gardener county/city programs throughout 2019. In the mean time, Stephanie has shared a brief bio to help you get to know her a little better.

Stephanie was born and raised in Frederick, Maryland and has been fascinated with plants since she was a child. She graduated from University of Maryland, Baltimore County with a B.S. in Environmental Science focused on ecosystems, habitat, and biodiversity. During her summers in college, She interned with the Maryland Coastal Bays Program in Ocean City.

After graduation, she spent one year in the Chesapeake Conservation Corps volunteer program, which is administered by the Chesapeake Bay Trust. She then worked as a Conservation Technician for National Aquarium’s Field Conservation team member for six years where she coordinated their volunteer team and organized the logistics for wetland and forest buffer restoration projects throughout the Chesapeake Bay watershed. Most recently, she managed grants and contracts for large restoration projects as a Project Coordinator for a small non-profit called GreenTrust Alliance.

Stephanie enjoys working and learning outdoors and has particular interests in native plants and conservation landscaping. She lives in Anne Arundel County with her husband and their two dogs. When not at work, she enjoys running, hiking, and reading.

She is interested in learning more about the unique characteristics of each of the UME Master Gardener county/city programs. She is honored to benefit from the great wealth of knowledge and experience of the UME Master Gardeners and looks forward to working with you all to help foster our programming as well as explore opportunities to help build upon our program mission.

Statewide Grow It Eat It Meeting
What is Grow It Eat It?

The Grow It Eat It (GIEI) Program is a sub-program of the UME Master Gardener Program that was launched in 2009 to teach Marylanders how to grow food in home, community, and school gardens.

Since then, UME Master Gardener volunteers have taught classes and workshops to help Maryland residents cultivate their own food gardens.
