My name is Indya “Icy” Wright, and I’m honored to step into the role of Communications Director for the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities. The District of Columbia Commission on the Arts and Humanities (CAH), in partnership with the District of Columbia Department of Transportation (DDOT), and District of Columbia Public Schools (DCPS), seeks District-based artists experienced in large-scale exterior murals, youth engagement, and community-based projects to design and install ground murals in the intersections near three DCPS schools in Washington, DC.
Submission deadline is Monday, January 12, 2026, at 9 pm.

CAH’s Public Art department is soliciting applications from experienced local mural artists for our new grant Fresh Paint: CAH Mural Program to design and install large-scale exterior murals on the facade of selected buildings within the District of Columbia.

Join us in person for the Inside Out opening reception with co-curators Vikki Tobak and Emma Pearce and musical guests Loc’d N Band.
Inside Out: Dignity and the Art of Seeing is a groundbreaking exhibition that turns the camera around, placing power and self-perception in the hands of incarcerated photographers whose images and stories stand as a testament to the way image-making can change lives.
The reception is from 6pm to 8pm EST, on Thursday, January 15. This is our first of two FY26 exhibitions presented with support from our Art Exhibition Grant program.

The Public Art Building Communities Grant requires a complete proposal and a list of documents for a successful application. Bring your great idea and join CAH’s Business of the Arts presentation to understand why the grant is open for several months and why planning early (and not waiting until a month before the deadline!) will set you up for success. If you are going to apply, January is a great time to get started. Join us to get a jump on things in the new year!
PABC supports the design, fabrication, and installation of permanent or temporary public artwork. Eligible projects enhance District neighborhoods by connecting artists and their artwork with communities.

Juried by Claude Elliott, the Hill Center Galleries 2026 Regional Juried Exhibition features the amazing work of artists from all over DC, Maryland, and Virginia. The selected artists compete for cash prizes and honorable mention awards. First place $1000, Second Place $750, and Third place $500.

The National Endowment for the Arts' Big Read is a program that awards grants ranging from $5,000 to $20,000 to organizations.
Applications for the 2026-2027 cycle are now open. The deadline to submit an Intent to Apply is January 15, 2026. Full applications are due January 29, 2026.

The primary aim of the National Creative Forces® Community Engagement grant program is to enhance the health, well-being, and quality of life for military-connected individuals who have experienced trauma.

Guidelines and application materials for the National Endowment for the Arts’ principal grants category, Grants for Arts Projects, are now available.
These grants support projects taking place in any part of the nation’s 50 states, the District of Columbia, and U.S. jurisdictions.

This program supports Maryland’s county arts agencies, the designated government offices and nonprofit organizations supporting local arts activities in the state’s 24 jurisdictions.

MVICW is committed to providing financial support to writers through their fellowship program. Now celebrating its 40th anniversary, the Washington, DC International Film Festival (Filmfest DC) celebrates the four decades during which they have presented thousands of new films to residents and visitors to our nation's capital.
In 2026, the in-person festival will be back at their traditional late April slot: Thursday, April 16 through Sunday, April 26.

| McLean Project for the Arts Spring Solo Call for Entries | |
McLean Project for the Arts currently seeks exhibition proposals for the Spring of 2026/2027. All MidAtlantic artists are invited to submit exhibition or project proposals for display in one of MPA’s five galleries. The exhibition dates for the 2026 Spring Solos are April 30 – June 13, 2026. (Spring 2027 dates TBD.) Exhibition proposals will be reviewed by the curatorial team of the McLean Project for the Arts. Selected artists will receive a $500 honorarium.

| Elkridge Community and 50+ Center - Public Art Sculpture RFQ | |
Howard County Arts Council issued a national Request for Qualifications (RFQ) for a signature public art sculpture at the new Elkridge Community & 50+ Center – a 67,000-square-foot hub that will include a gym and multi-purpose spaces for residents of all ages. The commission is funded at $500,000, making this one of the most significant public art projects in the region.

Creekside Arts Spring Residency | |
For the second year in a row, this residency will be free to all artists who are accepted into the program. For fiber artists, they are pleased to offer the Libby Palmquist Fiber Arts Stipend of $1500 to assist with travel and/or material expenses.
Last year, they invited two local artists and four international artists for a three-week residency at Creekside Arts, in Humboldt County, California, fostering an environment of collaboration and artistic growth.

Arlington Arts is looking for poems of 10 lines or less that will be displayed inside ART buses between March and September 2026. Four poems will be selected to be printed on colorful placards and displayed prominently on area buses, enlivening the ride for thousands of commuters. Each winner will also receive a $250 honorarium.
Poets who live within the D.C. Metro transit area (the Northern Virginia counties Arlington, Fairfax and Loudoun, and the cities Alexandria, Fairfax and Falls Church; the District of Columbia; and the Maryland counties Montgomery and Prince George's) and are over 18 years old are eligible to enter. There is no fee to enter.
Submission Deadline is February 15, 2026.

USArtists International® supports in-person performances by artists from any state or territory in the U.S. at engagements at international festivals, global presenting arts markets, and other eligible engagements outside of the United States. The program funds individuals and ensembles across all performing arts practices and disciplines.
Grant support range: Grants of up to $11,000 toward eligible expenses. Grants require a one-to-one cost share (or match).
Deadline: Wednesday, February 25, 2026 by 11:59 PM Eastern.
