The City of Greater Sudbury - News and Updates, January 2025

A Message from the Mayor

January Update

Happy New Year! I want to extend my warmest wishes to all residents of Greater Sudbury for a healthy, prosperous, and fulfilling 2025.

With the new year underway, Council and staff are eager to hit the ground running, delivering on the priorities that matter most to our community. The multi-year budget approved in December reflects our dedication to balancing immediate needs with long-term investments for a vibrant future.

In 2025, residents will see their tax dollars hard at work—from supporting our most vulnerable neighbours to improving infrastructure and driving key economic development priorities. This outcome underscores our commitment to building a healthy, thriving city while keeping property tax increases as low as possible.

Winter is the perfect season to embrace all that Greater Sudbury has to offer. Whether you explore by foot, skate, ski, or snowshoe, or however you get around, our community’s outdoor amenities offer something for everyone. Let’s make the most of this beautiful season together!

Wishing you a bright and exciting year ahead.

Mayor Paul Lefebvre

Safety Tip!

Did you know that salt is not an effective deicer when it is below -12`C? Consider salt alternatives:

  • Look for salt-free deicers that do not contain any chlorides, especially sodium chloride
  • Use acetate-based products
  • Consider traction aids such as pickled sand
