January Community Corner
There are still a few days left to help contribute to our fundraiser! Help e nsure that the Children's Reading Place remains a free space where children find magical surprises, secret hideouts and tiny nooks perfect for getting lost in books, so that they can become lifelong readers.

Love a Good Story?

Julie Van Rosendaal is our first ever speaker at    Anthology    -- her book "Dirty Food" takes a bite out of diet culture and 'clean eating' to revel in the sticky, saucy, gooey, crumbly, and messy recipes that stand as metaphors for human life. The local author and cook will be at the    Alexandra Centre Society    on January 28th from 9:00-10:30 to talk confection & connection.

Spotlight On: Networding

In a series of three morning events, we will be connecting business leaders and encouraging literacy conversations over breakfast and presentations by local authors.

There are important opportunities across sectors to improve literacy in Calgary, and we are excited for this new series of events that aims to bridge the gap between the worlds of education and business.

Did you know?

Just a 1% increase in literacy skills equals:
  • An $18.4 billion increase to the GDP
  • A 2.5% increase in productivity
  • A $32 billion boost to national income

Our first event will be on Friday, January 24th, featuring Todd Hirsch and his book, The Boiling Frog Dilemma. Join us as we deepen our connections with the business community to ensure that literacy thrives in Calgary to the benefit of us all!
