The year 2020 has kicked off and at Belvedere Elementary we are taking time to reflect and celebrate the moments from the past three months (November, December and January). This month has started with the reflection of a decade gone and a new one started. As we close out January, the city of LA is also remembering a great basketball player and father, whose life was cut short, along with his daughter and 7 others (
John Altobelli, Altobelli's wife, Keri, and daughter, Alyssa; Sarah Chester, Sarah Chester's 13-year-old daughter Payton; Ara Zobayan and Christina Mauser)
. We hope that everyone is able to connect with those they love and take a moment to be in appreciation with those around you.

Our very own students from Belvedere participated in the end of season 5K race at Whittier Narrows for Girls on the Run along with 600 other girls from all over California! The girls were so proud and excited to have run their first 5K! They were even recognized as one of the two teams for their Community Impact Project. For the Community Impact Project, the girls wrote a bill for consideration to Assemblymember Wendy Carrillo's office.
Thank you to all the families and teachers who came out to show their support! GO BEARS!

¡Nuestros estudiantes de Belvedere participaron en la carrera de final de temporada 5K en Whittier Narrows for Girls on the Run junto con otras 600 estudiantes de todo California! Incluso fueron reconocidos como uno de los dos equipos para su Proyecto de Impacto Comunitario.
Para el Proyecto de Impacto Comunitario, las chicas escribieron un proyecto de ley para su consideración en la oficina del asambleísta Wendy Carrillo.
¡Estaban tan orgullosas y emocionadas de haber corrido sus primeros 5 km! ¡Gracias a todas las familias y maestros que vinieron a mostrar su apoyo!

Los Golden Bears trabajaron en grupos para construir la estructura independiente más alta para sostener un malvavisco. El propósito era hacer que los estudiantes hablaran sobre trabajar en equipo y enfrentar desafíos.

The Golden Bears worked in groups to construct the tallest free-standing structure to hold a marshmallow. The purpose was to get students talking about working in teams and dealing with challenges.

Families as Partners Workshop
|
|
This January, we had a workshop with the teachers and teaching assistants to discuss ways of increasing family engagement. In the workshop we learned about the different types of school-family-community partnerships and reviewed what families shared in the School Experience Survey.

En el taller aprendimos sobre los diferentes tipos de asociaciones entre la escuela, la familia y la comunidad y revisamos lo que las familias compartieron en la Encuesta de experiencia escolar.

Parent - Teacher Conference Workshop
|
In November, families worked in pairs and practiced asking each other questions that they planned to ask during parent teacher conferences. Families also learned about student-led conferences and how they allow students to take ownership of their learning in partnership with teachers and families.

Winter Celebration

Before heading out for break, families came together to celebrate the end of the semester with a winter party. Families exchanged gifts, played games (cookie decoration) and shared food together.

In November, we had our very first Career Day for the Kindergarten through 2nd grade students. The students were able to spend the morning learning about the careers of firefighters, police, electricians and So Cal Gas workers!

En noviembre, tuvimos nuestro primer Día de Carrera para los estudiantes de jardín de infantes a segundo grado. ¡Los estudiantes pudieron pasar la mañana aprendiendo sobre las carreras de bomberos, policías, electricistas y trabajadores de So Cal Gas!

On Thursday, November 21, third thru 5th grade students attended two sessions of the jobs they were interested in learning about. Thanks to our school community we had doctors, electricians, civil engineers, architects and more! Thank you everyone for making our first Career Days a success!
