Newly Preserved: 29 Acres of Woodland and Waterways in Williams Township

Much of this property is interior woodlands, critical for varied migrating wildlife as part of a larger corridor.

The Derrington Property has just been preserved under a new conservation easement that protects 29 acres of vital water sources, wildlife habitat, and scenic forests for future generations.

“The preservation of the Derrington property provides exactly what wildlife is in desperate need of: large, contiguous tracts of protected wild space,” says Heritage Conservancy Biologist Sebastian Harris. “The property is rich in mature oaks, hickories, birches, and other beneficial native trees. This is a major success for conservation in the Easton area!”

Where Would William Mercer Watch the Super Bowl?

The original study at Aldie Mansion. Or was it a "man cave?"

If William "Willie" Mercer were alive today, where do you think he would be lounging back in a recliner to watch February's Super Bowl game? Our guess is his study at Aldie Mansion. Take a tour of Aldie's study, which was originally Willie's personal retreat filled with dark oak paneling, a fireplace, and enough craftsmanship to rival any modern man cave.

Ben Franklin Middle School Explores Croydon Woods

Students race to complete the "Nature Escape Room" program in Croydon Woods.

Over two chilly November days, Croydon Woods Nature Preserve came alive with the energy of nearly 200 sixth graders from Ben Franklin Middle School. Take a look at our education program's hands-on outdoor learning stations during a field trip like this one, and learn about why Croydon Woods Nature Preserve is great for educational experiences.

Beech Trees at Risk: What We Know About Beech Leaf Disease (BLD) and How We Can Respond

Look for darkened patches of green between leaf veins to detect this spreading tree disease.

Beech Leaf Disease (BLD) is threatening regional beech trees! It is spread by a new parasite: a nematode that arrived in southeastern Pennsylvania in 2023. Though the creatures are too small to be seen with the naked human eye, their damage threatens some of our most impressive and valuable trees.

How can this emerging tree disease be contained, and what can we learn from previous blights? We have some ideas and expert advice to share.

Meet "Fridays in the Forest" Volunteers Vicky and John Garrison

Vicky and John are making a difference in retirement and enjoying time outdoors working on some of the grounds Heritage Conservancy protects.

Retirees Vicky and John were looking for an organization where they could give back to their community while spending time outdoors. They found that opportunity in our "Fridays in the Forest" volunteer group.

This dedicated team joins Heritage Conservancy staff once a week to work at our

preserved properties, completing invasive species removal, trail clearing, trash removal, and other essential land management work.

"We learn so much about the local flora and fauna every time we're out with staff members Jim and Tyler," says John.
