January 2020: What's New
ParentChild+ Program Spotlight
ParentChild+ is a free program that meets parent and caregivers where they are to help build their child’s learning and language skills. Qualified staff meet with families regularly to provide free educational toys and books and show how to use them in ways that help children prepare children for school. Here's an example:

Jaclynn (right) was recently acting out the story line from one of our curriculum books, Five Little Monkeys Jumping on the Bed . She took the monkey stick puppets that were made
by our volunteers, made a bed and acted out the book. She especially loved saying the doctor’s line " No more monkeys jumping on the bed!”
When ParentChild+ Early Literacy Specialists provide extension items, such as the monkey stick puppets, that go along with the theme of a book, the child is often able to focus and learn for the entire 30 minutes. It gives them a hands-on way to learn new vocabulary while playing at the same time.

We are so grateful to the volunteers who generously give their time and talent to create extra props that help bring so much more meaning to our lessons.

Now Enrolling for Sibshops: Workshops for Siblings of Children with Special Needs
We are currently enrolling for our Sibshops program, which provides peer support, guidance, information, and camaraderie to typically-developing siblings of children with special needs.

Sibshops meet once a month on a Friday from 4:00-7:00 pm at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Issaquah. The cost is $25 per session, and dinner is provided.

Our classrooms offer different activity areas so that our preschoolers can always find ways to play that make their hearts sing! There are dress up props like sunglasses and firefighter hats (top) , toy cars and trucks (bottom left) , and pretend everyday tools like binoculars (bottom right) .
Parent Talks Podcast: Choosing the Right Preschool
Choosing a preschool for our children is a big decision for many parents, especially if you live in an area with lots of options. In this week's episode of Parent Talks, we’re talking with two mothers about what they took into consideration as they made their decisions. Then Encompass Early Learning Manager, Julie Forslin , shares her thoughts and guidance to parents preparing to send their children to preschool.

Blog Post: Fun Indoor Activities for Kids
It seems that the days often feel short this time of the year and the cold weather can prevent us from wanting to go outside. Unexpected snow days that keep kids home from school start out fun, but may start to wear thin after a few days. You may be left wondering, “How am I going to keep my child occupied all day?” Before worrying too much, Ashley Egger, Encompass Pediatric Speech-Language Pathologist , suggests some fun indoor activities to encourage speech and language development .

Simperman-Corette Foundation Grants $30,000 to Support Uncompensated Care at Encompass
Encompass recently received a generous grant of $30,000 from the Simperman-Corette Foundation to support our Pediatric Therapy Uncompensated Care Fund.
Many insurance companies do not cover developmental therapy, and for those that do provide coverage, the high deductibles and copays are often impossible for many families to afford. These families typically drop out of care. The Uncompensated Care Fund allows Encompass to absorb these costs so that children can receive services.

We are grateful to the Simperman-Corette Foundation for helping to establish and maintain this Uncompensated Care Fund!
T-Mobile Supports our Sibshops & Connections Families
In 2019, T-Mobile generously provided a grant that funded four special events for families in our Connections, Sibshops and Early Intervention programs. With this funding, we offered special sessions at Kidz Bounce , We Rock the Spectrum , a sensory-friendly viewing of Frozen at North Bend Theatre , and a sensory-friendly train ride at the Northwest Railway Museum .

We are thrilled to announce that T-Mobile will once again be sponsoring 4-5 of these outings in early 2020! Thank you to T-Mobile for making these special events possible!
