Honoring a Shared Legacy of Faith, Courage, and Black Leadership

The Feast of Absalom Jones and Barbara C. Harris

Join Bishop Whitworth for a Festival Eucharist honoring the Feast of Absalom Jones and Barbara C. Harris, celebrating a shared legacy of faith, courage, and Black leadership in the Episcopal Church.

The service will feature the Rev. Dr. Kelly Brown Douglas, theologian, public intellectual, and Canon Theologian at Washington National Cathedral, as the preacher. Dr. Douglas’ preaching and scholarship have shaped conversations on race, justice, and faith across the Church and beyond, making this celebration a powerful and timely witness.

Racial Justice Commission Presents: A Reckoning in Boston

Virtual Screening & Conversation

The Diocese of Massachusetts’ Racial Justice Commission invites you to a free virtual screening of the award-winning documentary A Reckoning in Boston on Tuesday, February 24, at 6:30 pm.

Following the 90-minute film, participants are invited to a live Zoom conversation at 8:00 pm with the filmmakers: Writer and Director James Rutenbeck, and Producers Kafi Dixon and Carl Chandler, who are featured in the film. The conversation will be moderated by The Rev. James M. Hairston, Priest-in-Charge of St. Augustine–St. Martin in Boston and a member of the Racial Justice Commission.

A Reckoning in Boston touches a deep emotional core and offers a lot to unpack and reflect upon about Boston’s past and present history of racism, particularly during this Lenten season of repentance,” said The Rev. Dr. Derrick Muwina, Chair of the Racial Justice Commission. “Our Baptismal Covenant calls on us to strive for justice and peace among all people, and to respect the dignity of every human being.
