This Salon, I am asking you to bring a book that has shown, or will show, our way forward. Most books of notable influence have been challenged because culture generally defends custom more than hailing progress. So very few influential books escape persecution. This fear of ideas persists in our own time and persons afraid of diversity and change are defending fragile ideas by attacking books, educators and libraries. Like a library, a bookstore is packed with diverse ideas and information. Oh the weight of freedom is great. But this is not the place for my screed against censors.
