Changing Demographics with Guest Speaker Dr. Sean Foreman
Join the World Affairs Council of Miami for a Great Decisions Discussion with Guest Speaker Dr. Sean Foreman, Professor of History & Political Science, Barry University. We'll discuss Changing Demographics, and assess the remarkable demographic changes the world experienced in the 20th century that continue today and have resulted in worldwide social, economic, political, and environmental consequences.
Great Decisions is the largest nonpartisan public education program on international affairs in the world. Created in the 1950s by the Foreign Policy Association, the World Affairs Council of Miami utilizes Great Decisions to engage citizens in South Florida to learn about critical issues involving world affairs and U.S. foreign policy.
Academic WorldQuestis a nationwide competition to test high school students’ knowledge of current international politics, geography, global economics, history, and world cultures. Its purpose is to prepare the next generation of leaders, scholars, and decision-makers to thrive in a rapidly changing world. It strives to renew enthusiasm for global studies, closing the gap between American students and many of their counterparts abroad when it comes to knowledge and understanding of world history, geography, and international events.
As such, each year over 50 World Affairs Councils across the country hold local Academic WorldQuest competitions for high school students in their communities. The local competition in Miami-Dade County will take place in March 2022, with the winning team then invited on an all-expense-paid trip to Washington, DC in late April 2022 to represent their high school and compete in the Carlos and Malú Alvarez Academic WorldQuest National Competition at the United States Peace Institute! If you are interested in forming a team for your high school, you can find out more and sign up here.
