Josh Hamann, MD, is
2019 BCMS President
Josh Hamann, MD, is the new President of Boone County Medical Society, having taken the Oath of Office during the Annual BCMS Gala on Feb. 2, 2019.
Dr. Hamann has been a member of BCMS since 2016 and in 2018 served as the Society's President-Elect.
A native of Iowa, Dr. Hamann earned his medical degree and completed his residency at the University of Missouri School of Medicine. He is an orthopaedic surgeon at Columbia Orthopaedic Group. Dr. Hamann and his wife Keira have three children and live in Columbia.

PDMP Discussion at Upcoming General Membership Meeting
|
Please plan to join BCMS for a General Membership dinner meeting on Tuesday, March 5, 2019, at Boone Hospital in Columbia. This meeting is free and open to all BCMS members and their guests.

The event begins with a social at 6 p.m., followed by dinner, a short business meeting and guest presenters from 6:30 p.m.-8:30 p.m. The topic for this event is the St. Louis PDMP. Speakers include:
- Emily D. Doucette, MD, MSPH, FAAFP, Acting Director, Chief Medical Officer, Director of Public Health and Primary Care Integration, and Family Medicine Physician with the Saint Louis County Department of Public Health.
- Jonathan Heidt MD, MHA, FACEP, Emergency Medicine - Medical Director, EM Quality Improvement at University of Missouri–Columbia.
- Scott Clardy, Assistant Director of the Columbia/Boone County Department of Public Health and Human Services.

Pardalos Honored With BCMS's Distinguished Physician Award
|
John Pardalos, MD, was the recipient of the 2018 Distinguished Physician Award (formerly known as the Doctor of the Year Award) at the annual BCMS Gala on Feb. 2, 2019.
Dr. Pardalos was nominated for the award by 2018 BCMS President Frederick Fraunfelder, MD. Pardalos has an exemplary record of service to the medical community in Central Missouri and has been very involved with the charitable organization A Call to Serve (ACTS) International.
Through his work with ACTS, Dr. Pardalos, a Neonatologist at Women's and Children's Hospital, has traveled several times to the country of Georgia, a former Soviet republic, to work with physicians there on improving healthcare options and treatments, particularly for newborns and infants.
During his acceptance speech, Dr. Pardalos noted his life and career, and the entire medical community, were enriched by the contributions of the late Patricia Blair, MD, who founded ACTS, and the late Elizabeth James, MD, the founder of MU's Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.
Dr. Pardalos has been a BCMS member since 1998 and has served on its Board of Directors since 2009.

for Service as Executive Director

On June 30, 2018, after nearly two decades of service, Beverly Wilcox retired as the executive director of BCMS.
Members of the BCMS Board asked her to attend the Feb. 2, 2019, Gala so that she may be duly honored by the Society and those she worked so closely with during her tenure.
At the Gala, the BCMS Board presented Beverly with several gifts, along with resolutions commemorating her retirement on behalf of the Missouri House of Representatives and Senate.
Mary Catherine Heimburger, representing the BCMS Alliance, also presented Beverly with a beautiful arrangement of roses as a thank-you from the Alliance and its members.
Beverly was joined at the Gala by her husband John, daughter Tamara Garcia, and son Jonathan.

BCMS 50-Year Physician and Scholarship Winners Recognized at Gala

Robert Frazier, MD, pictured with his wife Emily, was honored at the BCMS Gala for his 50-year career as a physician. Dr. Frazier will be eligible to receive his 50-year physician pin at the Missouri State Medical Association (MSMA) Annual Convention, April 5-7, in Kansas City.

BCMS Hosting Educational Programs for Residents/Fellows
|
|
The BCMS Board of Directors is working with business leaders in the Columbia area to develop a series of free educational programs for resident physicians and fellows at the University of Missouri School of Medicine.
The goal of these programs is to provide information on various subjects, ranging from investing for the future to insurance needs of the physician, that will be helpful to residents and fellows in both their personal lives and professional careers.
The seminars are scheduled for March 19, April 2 and April 16 at the Medical Education Building. All resident physicians and fellows from MU are invited to attend.
