Cecil Dance Theatre will be presenting The Little Mermaid this spring season under the choreographic talent of Miss Anya Ivanova-Bojko at Milburn Stone Theatre.

Cecil Junior Dance Troupe will be presenting Alice In Wonderland

this March 25 & 26 at Elkton High School. Miss Devon Johnson will lead this talented group of junior dancers as they present a fantastic show for audiences!

DANCE IN 2023 IS FUN FOR YOU AND ME!

EASTER CANDY FUNDRAISER CAN PUT SOME EGGS IN YOUR BASKET!

Cecil Junior Dance Troupe (CJDT) is sponsoring a Gertrude Hawk Chocolate fundraiser to help offset your tuition expenses and to help fund their production of Alice In Wonderland. 20% of your sales will be applied to your Cecil Dancenter tuition and another 20% will go towards CJDT! Sell $100, earn a $20 credit on your account and raise $20 for CJDT! Online and in-person sales are open NOW and orders are due by Saturday, February 25 with delivery sometime the week of March 27 just in time for Easter! Online orders placed now through February 25 can choose to have their orders delivered for free with the catalog shipment to the studio then the seller (you) would be responsible for delivering the order to them OR out of town friends and family can choose to send their orders directly to their home. Please note that shipping fees apply with this option, but orders can be placed now through 3/26/23.

NEW CLASSES FOR A NEW YEAR

Due to the popular demand for classes, we have added the following:

New for Session Four:

Combo (Ballet & Jazz) (ages 6+) - we are offering this class on Saturdays from 11:15am - 12:00pm in Studio A starting on March 4. This is a non-recital class. Only need ballet slippers.
Youth Hip Hop (ages 7+) on Tuesdays from 6:00pm - 6:45pm in Studio C starting on March 7. This is a non-recital class. Only need sneakers and comfortable clothes.

New Monday classes for a special 10-week session beginning Monday, March 27 through Monday, June 12:

Toddler Class (ages 18 months-3) in Studio C from 5:00pm- 5:30pm
Creative Dance Class (age 3) in Studio C from 5:30pm-6:00pm
Dance Basics Class (age 4-6) in Studio C from 6:00pm-6:45pm
No classes Mon, April 10 or Mon, May 29

CECIL DANCE THEATRE PRESENTS THE LITTLE MERMAID

CDT is excited to present this popular classic show to audiences on the stage at Milburn Stone Theatre this spring! Shows will be held Saturday, May 6 and Sunday, May 7 both days at 1:00pm. Embark on a journey thousands of leagues under the sea to a kingdom where merfolk spend their days in Atlantica swimming freely but live in the shadows of an evil sea witch who longs to rule over the land. This family-friendly ballet has plenty of adventure in store for audience members! Anya Ivanova-Bojko uses her choreographic talent to cast riveting scenes submerging the stage with colorful imagery and elaborate movement combining the Hollywood feel with the classic Hans Christian Anderson tale. Great seats are available now! Young audience members may dance on stage with some of our cast members in our pre-show as well as take pictures with the cast after the performance! WE WANT TO SEE, SEE YOU DANCING... ON STAGE WITH US AT OUR PRESHOW!

Not only will little ones enjoy CDT's The Little Mermaid show from the audience, but they can also participate on stage before the show begins! All children arriving prior to the start of the show will be able to come up on stage if they'd like to join the "Under The Sea" dance party following our cast members in some party dances like Hokey Pokey, Chicken Dance and Electric Slide. No need to register for this event, simply purchase your performance tickets (click here for tickets) and arrive 15 minutes early to the show. Children may wear their favorite clothes, costume, or casual attire. We look forward to having all of the little ones join us on stage!

STUDIO CLOSURE DATES - MARK YOUR CALENDARS

We will be closed for a break in-between sessions from Monday, February 27 - Thursday, March 2. Classes resume on Friday, March 3. Our Easter closure will be Thursday, April 6 - Wednesday, April 12 and our Memorial Day break will be from Friday, May 26 - Monday, May 29.

SESSION THREE END / SESSION FOUR START

Session 3 ends on February 25 and session 4 begins on Friday, March 3. Your child's spot in his/her class is reserved until June, so there is no need to re-register. Simply put your tuition in our payment box (lobby of both locations) or pay on-line during the last week of Session 3. If your child does not plan to continue in our dance program, please notify our office so that we may release your child's spot to someone who may be on our waiting list and so that you are not billed for future sessions.

RECITAL COSTUME INFO

CREATIVE DANCE AND DANCE BASICS RECITAL COSTUME ORDERS

The studio recitals for Creative Dance and Dance Basics classes will be held Saturday, June 10 – Wednesday, June 14 at our studio. Costumes for these classes are $40 to rent the costume or $60 for the rent to buy option (the deadline has passed to purchase a costume to keep). All prices include the recital fee which includes a trophy and free admission for family and friends. A copy of the form is available on the lobby desk.

DANCE FUNDAMENTALS - ADULT LEVEL RECITAL COSTUME ORDERS

Recitals for Dance Fundamentals - Adult classes will be held on Saturday, June 17 and Sunday, June 18 at Elkton High School. The costume deadline has passed and costumes have been ordered. Dancers who missed the order deadline will need to contact the office for options.

COSTUME DELIVERY & DISTRIBUTION FOR DANCE FUNDAMENTALS - ADULT CLASSES EXPLAINED

• IN-STOCK: SOME costumes selected for classes were listed as "in stock" items when we placed our studio order and may arrive soon. Once we receive, sort and label these in-stock costumes, we will pass them out in class... BUT it is possible that not all sizes of any one costume are in stock. This means that certain sizes may be shipped at a later date; therefore, some dancers may receive their costumes before others if a particular size is not available when the others are pulled and shipped. We know costume warehouses want to get their orders out as quickly as they can... as do we since we do not have the storage space to hold 600+ costumes. If your child's costume is not passed out with others in their class that means we do not have it yet so please be patient!

• ON ORDER: SOME costumes are NOT "in stock" and have a later availability date as the costume company does not have any in their warehouse and needs to order them from the designer/manufacturer. If your class does not receive costumes in the next few weeks then the costume is on the "late availability" list which means it could be a few months before they are slated to be shipped. Please be patient and understanding of the delays, as this time of year there is a strain on costume manufacture, shipping, and distribution.

LOST AND FOUND

We have a lost and found bin at each studio location for items that get left behind; however, this bin is emptied several times a year with unclaimed items donated to Goodwill or discarded. So don’t delay… look today for lost items!

INCLEMENT WEATHER

We DO NOT follow public school closings or county/state government offices for inclement weather. Please check our Facebook page or your email to see if classes have been canceled. If your child's class is canceled once due to inclement weather, you may make-up the class by attending an extra class at the same level or lower. If the same class is canceled more than once, a make-up class will be scheduled. Please keep in mind that many of our instructors do not live in Cecil County, so we may need to cancel classes if the roads are bad in their area.

In addition to email and Facebook notices, Cecil Dancenter also uses a text alert system to help keep you informed of important and time sensitive notifications such as canceled classes, inclement weather alerts, important reminders, etc. We need your permission to be added to the list so if you would like to be added, and have not been added in the past, or have a new number, please email the office at [email protected] to have an email with instructions sent to you.

DRESS CODE

Please click here for information regarding our dress code for each of our dance styles. It is important that you dress appropriately so that the instructor can make sure your technique and form are correct. For classes requiring dance shoes we recommend purchasing those shoes at The Dance Station. Slippers found at Walmart or discount stores are not recommended as it's hard for the instructor to see if the foot is properly pointed.

NOTES ON ATTIRE: Although it is becoming more common to see professionals in the dance industry wearing crop tops, halters and sports bras, our studio requires dancers come to class dressed modestly with their torsos covered. We strive to promote a level of confidence that focuses on dance and not body image; therefore, students will be asked to change if they come to class exposing their torso. If you have any questions or concerns about this, please contact the office. Thank you for helping us to provide a family friendly atmosphere at Cecil Dancenter.

BALLET SLIPPER TIP

Please tuck your dancers ballet slipper laces underneath the top of the shoe. The lace may be cut shorter so it's more comfortable for your child (just make sure to double knot the lace). This provides a more aesthetic look for the mature dancer and for our younger dancers it helps the child/teacher to spend time on instruction rather than tying shoe laces.

PRIVATE LESSONS

Private lessons are a great way for students to get personalized attention and individualized corrections. We have staff members available to give private dance lessons at a rate of $25-$72/hour. If you are interested in private lessons, please contact our office.
