Woolly Great Classroom Teachers throughout Maryland are invited to a special event, just for you. Designed as an Open House (come when you can, leave when you want), A Mammoth Night for Teachers is an opportunity to learn about the Ice Age in Maryland and in turn share that knowledge with your students. Light refreshments will be available.

In addition to the Mammoth Display, several hands-on learning stations led by members of the NHSM Fossil Club will reinforce concepts such as fossils, physiology, and geology. In addition, teachers will be given a free fossil kit* to take back to their school to continue deep time and paleontological studies with their students (one per school).

While this event is free for teachers to attend, we do ask that you RSVP to help with planning.

BCHN Success Stories

Glenn L. Martin Maryland Aviation Museum

The Glenn L. Martin Maryland Aviation Museum thanks everyone who visited its Holiday Plane & Train Garden this season as it was the Museum's best attended Garden. The support of your holiday visits was very much appreciated. Museum staff invite you to return next year to see the Garden's 2024 historic and memorable sites created for display.

One of the visitors to the Garden was 103 year old Rosie the Riveter Mary Jones who had an "I Spy!" moment when she found herself in a photo of the Martin basketball team. (photo attached) Other visitors that day enjoyed meeting her for a special living history encounter.

Thanks to lessons learned at the October BCHN workshop, the Museum team who attended put into action a plan to increase Museum membership during the Holiday Garden's 21 days of operation and we exceeded our goal! Thank you BCHN! Memberships are still available for this new year!

The Fire Museum of Maryland

The "Tommy" at the Fire Museum of Maryland in Lutherville.

In May, 2022, the Baltimore City Fireboat "Mayor Thomas D'Allesandro, Jr. " arrived at the Fire Museum of Maryland in Lutherville. Since then, our Museum team has worked tirelessly to restore the wheelhouse to its 1956 appearance. The job is far from finished, but during the final week of December, we opened up and let the public in for a 'sneak peak' at the progress so far. Hundreds of visitors enthusiastically climbed aboard to see the fireboat for themselves - and many took the opportunity to take the wheel! We can't say when we may offer a second sneak peak, but we will let everyone know when we do.

More than that we hope to spread our love of our local history and its amazing stories to more people in our region.
