Meet Rancho Cordova's New Chief of Police

Rancho Cordova's City Manager, Cyrus Abhar, announced that he has appointed Chris Pittman as the new Rancho Cordova Police Chief.  Pittman, a Sheriff's Captain with twenty-two years of experience with the Sacramento County Sheriff's Department, will fill the role vacated by the recent retirement of former Police Chief Michael Goold in December of 2016.

"We are pleased to welcome Chris Pittman as our City's new Chief of Police," said Mr. Abhar. "Chief Pittman is well-known in our community, having served previously as Assistant Chief of Police in Rancho Cordova in 2014 and as the current President of the Rancho Cordova Police Activities League. His long history, wealth of experience, and commitment to Rancho Cordova all make him an excellent choice to lead our police department."

Winter Tips

Stormwater Pollution

Have you ever wondered what happens to motor oil on driveways, roads, parking lots, and highways on a rainy day? Every time it rains, urban runoff travels into storm drains and impacts our waterways by creating stormwater pollution. With the increased rain we are likely to see this winter, follow these easy tips to care for your car to help avoid stormwater pollution:
  • Inspect and maintain your car regularly to prevent oil, antifreeze, and other fluid leaks.
  • Place cardboard or an oil pan underneath your car if it is leaking fluids.
  • Take motor oil, antifreeze, and other used fluids to an automotive center or gas station with a recycling program, or drop it off at a collection center. View the Republic Services Customer Guide for more information.
  • Reduce automobile use by carpooling, riding the bus, riding your bike, or walking.
Tax Preparation

Do you need help preparing for tax season? The AARP Foundation is offering free tax preparation to anyone who needs help, especially if you are over 50 years old or can't afford a paid tax preparation service. This service is being offered in Rancho Cordova at National University, 10901 Gold Center Drive, on Mondays and Wednesdays from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. To make an appointment, call 2-1-1. To search for other AARP sites in the Sacramento area, click here.
Volunteer Nominations Needed

Do you know a great volunteer? The Cordova Community Council is seeking nominations for outstanding volunteer efforts. Winners will be honored at the 18th Annual Community Awards event, scheduled for March 10th at Rancho Cordova City Hall.

Each year, inspiring stories emerge about individuals, teenagers, businesses and organizations that are making a big difference in the Rancho Cordova community through extraordinary volunteer efforts.  Nominate a volunteer by 5 p.m. on Friday, February 3rd.

Whisker Warriors "Pawtners" with Meals on Wheels

Whisker Warriors, a local non-profit organization dedicated to reducing animal overpopulation and ensuring the well-being of the animals in our community, has teamed up with Meals on Wheels. Last year, Rancho Cordova Meals on Wheels volunteers discovered that some of the senior citizens in the free food delivery program were giving their meals to their pets because of their limited resources.

In August of 2015, Whisker Warriors started supplying donated cat and dog food to Meals on Wheels to be distributed to seniors in the program who have pets.

Today, 230 homebound seniors in the Meals on Wheels program and their 375 cats and dogs are benefiting from this partnership.

New Building and Safety Codes

On January 1, 2017 the City of Rancho Cordova began enforcing the new 2016 California Building Codes, as mandated by State law.

Building codes are updated every three years, and 2017 will be the beginning of a new code cycle. This means that any applications for permits submitted on or after January 1st, 2017, will need to meet the new code standards, which are the 2016 California Building Codes.
