Internal Opportunities

Auburn University Rural Partnership Institute (AURPI)


The Auburn University Rural Partnership Institute (AURPI) is soliciting proposals from faculty who are collaborating with industry and/or community organizations to develop and implement solutions that enhance the efficiency, sustainability, and economic viability of Alabama’s poultry and forestry industries with the ultimate goal of improving the lives of rural Alabamians. This request for proposal is intended for faculty to collaborate with industry or community organizations in support of the goals of AURPI’s project.


Topics could include but are not limited to:

  • Develop technology solutions and market intelligence that will help producers and processors of poultry and forest products improve their competiveness and sustainability.
  • Promote technologies that will advance the poultry and forest products industries.
  • Predict and protect against cyber-physical vulnerabilities in poultry and forest products sectors
  • Find opportunities to better manage water and wastewater; better manage and upcycle the waste streams emanating from poultry and forest product processing facilities for beneficial use.
  • Other topics of investigation into challenges facing rural Alabama, including exploratory social and health science research.

University Writing Center: Excellence in Writing Across the Curriculum


The University Writing Committee’s (UWC) Award for Excellence in Writing Across the Curriculum honors academic programs (undergraduate majors) and their faculty who have demonstrated sustained and successful efforts to integrate evidence-based pedagogical practices across an undergraduate major. One award of $20,000 will be given to an academic program to use for faculty professional development. These funds are unrestricted, but the UWC encourages programs to use the money to support writing-focused guest speakers, conference attendance, or research projects.

Alzheimer's Association Research Grants


The AARG grant program aims to fund early-career investigators who are less than 15 years past their doctoral degree or post-residency (M.D. or D.O.) with funding that will allow them to develop preliminary or pilot data, to test procedures and to develop hypotheses. The intent is to support early-career development that will lay the groundwork for future research grant applications to federal or other funding entities.

The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts


The Foundation actively supports the advancement of the visual arts through an extensive artist-centered grantmaking program. The aim is to encourage and facilitate the production of original work that expands and enhances the contemporary art field. These grants serve the needs of artists by funding the arts organizations and cultural institutions that support them. The grants provided cover the full spectrum of artistic activity, from grassroots happenings at alternative spaces to contemporary exhibitions at major museums, and every phase of the creative process, from conception and production, to presentation and documentation.

Organization for Autism Research (OAR) Applied Research Grants


OAR seeks to fund studies that expand the body of knowledge related to autism intervention and treatment; produce practical and clearly objective results; have the potential to positively affect public policy, and provide outcomes that offer to enhance quality of life for persons with autism and their families. While applicants are always free to submit on any relevant area of research or intervention, this year, OAR has placed special emphasis on research addressing the following areas:


  • Community-Based Assessment and Intervention 
  • Community-Engaged Research
  • Community Living and Supports
  • Gender, Reproductive, and Sexual Health
  • Improving Access to and Effectiveness of Existing Systems and Services
  • Intersectionality, Equity and Diversity
  • Mid-life and Older Adults
  • Physical Health and Mental Health

Russel Sage Foundation: Causal Research on the Criminal Justice System


The Russell Sage Foundation (RSF), in collaboration with the Criminal Justice program at Arnold Ventures (AV) announces its first annual grants competition for early-career scholars. The goal is to cultivate a pipeline of researchers conducting causal research on the criminal justice system. Criminal justice policies and practices include the work of police, courts, jails, prisons, probation and parole, and immigration detention.


Proposals must include causal research designs that can reliably isolate the treatment effects of a policy, practice, or intervention. Examples include difference-in-differences, regression discontinuity, instrumental variables, and randomized controlled trials. Mixed methods projects will be considered if a causal research design is central to the proposal.

In order to provide resources for faculty and staff, Auburn University has partnered with Hanover Research for a number of grant development solutions including Pre-proposal Support; Proposal Development; and Capacity Building. Their full-service grant development solutions are available to set goals, build strategies to achieve key grant-seeking objectives, and develop grant proposals that are well-planned, researched, and written.

The Hanover Research Grants Learning Center (GLC) on-demand grant development training portal offers faculty enrollees the unique opportunity to receive targeted training in the form of self-paced, interactive modules with step-by-step guidance and templates for prospective applicants to develop compelling proposals. In addition to NIH and NSF-CAREER modules, AU faculty now have access to a variety of new modules on grant seeking, development and revisions.
