Happy New Year! 

We hope 2017 is off to a great start! Sweet Blackberry would like to take this time to thank our community for their continuous support in 2016. We look forward to continuing projects and getting to know the Sweet Blackberry community through our fundraising activities and volunteer opportunities. 

This year Sweet Blackberry aims to continue its fundraising mission for the Bessie Coleman project and visit various schools around the country education youth and sharing lesser known stories of many individuals often looked over in American History.

Each year we celebrate the legacy of civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr. made for this country and the timeless values he taught us through courage, truth, justice, compassion, dignity, humility and service. 

On the third Monday of January this country takes the time to reflect on how far we've come as a nation and many miles ahead.
 
This month, Sweet Blackberry will commemorate Dr. King's legacy with this amazing Civil Rights Activity Book from the Southern Poverty Law Center aimed at sharing Black Americans' fight for equal justice and opportunity under the law.

Congrats to all the Golden Globe Winners! 
With television in its "golden age" and many films with strong diverse casts gaining the recognition they deserve, this year's Golden Globes truly encompassed the potential of minority actors, filmmakers and composers have when given a chance to show the world what they're capable of. 

From shows such as "black- ish" and "Atlanta" to notable films "Fences" and "Moonlight," this was an amazing year for diversity in both television and film and we could not be more proud!  
This month, Sweet Blackberry continues to raise funds for this exciting project sharing the story of the first African-American female pilot, Bessie Coleman. This animated short will surround Coleman's journey and determination to defy odds by moving to France from Atlanta, Texas to learn to fly. 

This Bessie Coleman project will join our collection of short films teaching children little known Black history stories such as the stories of Henry "Box" Brown, Janet Collins and Garrett Morgan. Each of these films are currently available on Netflix.

I began my entertainment career as a magazine editor. 
Both my mother and I are Golden Globe winners. 
I was the first Black woman in 35 years to win a Golden Globe for Best Actress in a TV Comedy or Musical.
