January Happenings

Dear Friends,

It's time to slow down and take a little winter rest. Of course, many of us enjoy all the winter outdoor activities that we are so lucky to have access to in the Adirondacks, but equally wonderful is snuggling under a blanket at home with an absorbing novel, sitting by the fire with a friend and a good bottle of wine, or having the time to slow cook a stew or bake some bread which will make the house feel warm and cozy and smell so wonderful. This Christmas Heather made the staff wonderful baskets of food she had prepared at home: pumpkin whoopie pies, quince jam from the quince trees in her yard, and a delicious loaf of sourdough bread. These were gifts from Heather but also gifts from the Earth, and she included a piece she wrote about making sourdough bread and how sourdough can become a metaphor for abundance. Read her blog below about sourdough bread, and I hope you enjoy it as much as we all did.

A reminder that for January and February we will be closed on Mondays and Tuesdays.

Heather's Blog

"Sourdough"

It all starts with just 3 tablespoons. A tiny amount of a non-descript, beige, bubbling, gooey,semi-solid substance is all it takes to make two loaves of bread. Every time I make bread, I love watching those 3 tablespoons of starter bloom and grow into a week’s worth of food. Sourdough isn’t a new concept. Certainly it was a craze during the pandemic. I even tried it then but didn’t take the time to really understand the art of slowing down and baking bread. During that time, we were so busy at work. As an essential business, we converted our entire inventory onto online to serve our customers safely. We offered

Most Popular Wines of 2025!

It is no surprise to us that our top three selling wines of 2025 are made by small producers in Europe who make delicious wines, all either organic or sustainable, and at affordable prices. If you haven't tried these wines yet (one white and two reds) try one next time you are in the wine shop!

Domaine GuillaumeCabrol

Picpoul de Pinet

Once customers discovered this fabulous Picpoul last summer, they couldn't stop buying it! This is one of those bottles that you might not try if it weren't recommended--Picpoul certainly isn't one of the most common grape varietals! But if you like a dry and crisp white wine like Sauvignon Blanc, you will probably enjoy Picpoul which has high acidity complemented by citrus and stone fruits and a lovely mouthfeel. It is produced by a family owned estate in the Languedoc, the estate is certified sustainable by Terra Vitis, and all this for less than $15!

Viña Zorzal

Garnacha

The Zorzal Garnacha--or "bird wine" as it is fondly nicknamed in the wine shop--is beloved and a true gem. This vibrant and medium bodied Garnacha is made by the Sanz brothers who come from a multigenerational winemaking family, but they opened their own winery in 2007 where they farm the vines organically and practice low intervention winemaking. If you are one of the few who have never tried it, come give it a whirl!

Viña Zorzal

Garnacha

Pas de Probleme Pinot Noir was not just our top selling Pinot Noir of 2025, but our top selling red wine! Sourced from sustainably farmed vineyards in the Languedoc region of France, Pas de Probleme is juicy, light and fruity with no oak, and a little earthier than many domestic Pinot Noirs available at this price point.

What's New in the Craft Beer Center?

Other Half

All Puggle Everything Imperial IPA

What's the hops in All Puggle Everything? Why "Fuggle" hops of course! This collab with Monkish Brewing has notes of big tropical fruit, tangerine, peach, lychee and a hint of earthy dankness. And there are cute pugs on the label....

Upper Pass Beer Co.

Cashmere Hoodie

Pale Ale

Cashmere hoodie is Upper Pass's newest pale ale hopped with Cashmere and Centennial. With a lower ABV (5.3%), this medium-bodied, slightly hazy pale ale was brewed to be an easy drinker.

Abomination Brewing Co F*** Dry January

Triple IPA

While we have a ton of NA beer options, some us choose not to partake in Dry January--this is the beer for a very very wet January indeed!
