Dr Ferdinand Brockman - Florence Dentist

Hermann Lucien Ferdinand Brockman was born 11 May 1876 in Obernkirchen, Germany. At the age of 16 he left Germany for America, arriving in New York. Shortly after arriving he moved to Cincinnati, where he received a Degree in Dentistry.

In 1902, at the age of 26, he moved to Arizona and received Arizona Dentist License #8 and Arizona Pharmacy License #25. After obtaining his licenses he practiced in several towns in Arizona, including Tombstone, Tucson, Nogales, Globe, Winkelman, and Safford. In 1907 he married his wife Maria Jesus Ramirez of Sonora, Mexico. The couple later had two children, Otto and Guadalupe.

In 1918 he and his family moved to Florence, where he set up a practice serving the local community and the State Prison. Dr Brockman practiced in Florence for about 40 years before retiring.

After practicing dentistry for a total of almost 60 years Dr Brockman retired in 1958. He spent the last 11 years of his life living in Tucson, where he passed away on 28 February 1971.

The dental chair pictured at right was used by Dr Brockman in his office in Tombstone, AZ, located above the Crystal Palace Saloon. Note the dental drill in the photo, powered by a foot pedal. To see this chair and other dental instruments from Dr. Brockman's practice just pay us a visit at the PCHS Museum!
