Professional Learning for Adult Education & Family Literacy Staff

Below you will find a list of upcoming courses that are now available for enrollment in the PD Portal. For more information about any of these courses, please visit the  PD Portal, open the course catalog, and review the syllabus. If you are interested in enrolling in a course, please consult with your in-house professional development specialist (IHPDS) to determine if the course meets your professional learning goals.

Online Courses Beginning in January

Family Literacy Foundations Training - starts January 27, enroll by January 21.

Effective Employer Engagement in the Workforce Development System - complete prerequisite activities prior to first webinar on February 3, enroll by January 30.
Online Course Beginning in February

Teaching Emergent Readers in an ESL Classroom - starts February 1, enroll by January 31. Prior to participating in this course, participants need either to have completed the ESL Basics course or to have a certificate or degree in TESOL or a related field.
Face-to-Face Course in February

BEST Plus 2.0 Test Administrator Training, Literacy Pittsburgh.
  • Face-to face training on February 6, 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m., enroll by January 30.
  • Participants will need to bring a laptop with BEST Plus 2.0 loaded onto the laptop.
Online Courses Beginning in March

Early Learning Accomplishment Profile (E-LAP) and Learning Accomplishment Profile - 3rd Edition (LAP-3) Assessment Implementation  - enroll within first seven days of March and complete by April 1.

ESL Basics: Second Language Acquisition and Principles of Second Language Teaching  - starts March 1, enroll by February 29.

Supporting Adult Learner Transition: The Role of the Student Support Coordinator  - starts March 2, enroll by March 2.

Student Support Coordinator Basics  - starts March 5, enroll by February 29.

Using and Scoring ACIRI  - course runs March 15 - April 15; enroll by March 22 to complete the course by April 15.

New Course Coming Soon: CCRS Observation and Aggregation of Data
This course was designed for administrators, IHPDSs, and lead teachers who are well versed in the CCRS and key advances in math and ELA, and who want to improve overall CCRS alignment within their agencies.

BEST Plus 2.0 Test Administrator Training, PaTTAN Harrisburg
  • Face-to face training on March 12, 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m., enroll by March 5.
  • Participants will need to bring a laptop with BEST Plus 2.0 loaded onto the laptop.

BEST Plus 2.0 Scoring Refresher, PaTTAN Harrisburg
  • Face-to face training on March 13, 9:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m., enroll by March 6.
  • Participants will need to bring their BEST Plus 2.0 Test Administrator Manual to the session.

BEST Plus 2.0 Scoring Refresher, Literacy Pittsburgh
  • Face-to face training on March 27, 9:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m., enroll by March 20.
  • Participants will need to bring their BEST Plus 2.0 Test Administrator Manual to the session.

Introduction to the Foundation Skills Framework
Enroll anytime and have 30 days from the enrollment date to complete the course.

PA CASAS Training
Enroll anytime and have 45 days from the enrollment date to complete the course.
As you plan when to enroll in the course, please remember that a trained assessor will need to observe you administering three distinct CASAS tests within the 45-day course period.

PA TABE 11&12 Training
Enroll anytime and have 45 days from the enrollment date to complete the course.

Staff Induction Verification Course
New staff members who are participating in the staff induction process enroll in this course after they have completed the required activities.

Staff Induction Module Courses
This series of modules was designed for new agency staff members as part of a customizable on-boarding process. Existing staff may also choose to complete these modules at any time. New Module: Introduction to Supplemental Distance Learning

Tutor Training Module Courses
These modules cover the foundational skills needed by volunteers working in adult education programs. The eight modules serve as a component of volunteer tutor and classroom aide training and can be completed at any time.
