Norfolk Southern- served site in Alabama earns platinum REDI designation

The Shoals Research Airpark in Muscle Shoals, AL, has received new national recognition thanks to our partner, Norfolk Southern.

“At the Shoals EDA, we are focused on advancing The Shoals region as a competitive and attractive destination for business and industry,” said Kevin Jackson, Shoals EDA President. “Our sites and buildings are central to that strategy, and this designation further reinforces our efforts. We appreciate Norfolk Southern’s partnership and its efforts to highlight the potential of this site.”

The Site received the top Platinum Level designation as part of the REDI Sites program. Reserved for properties that meet the highest readiness benchmarks, this designation clearly signals to global site selectors that the site is development-ready with a fast-track timeline.

EDAA Winter Conference

Members of the Shoals EDA staff attended the Economic Development Association of Alabama’s Winter Conference in Montgomery, Alabama. During the conference, staff received updates from key state partners, including the Alabama Department of Commerce, AIDT, and the Economic Development Partnership of Alabama. On Tuesday, the 27th, they also attended the Governor’s Luncheon, where they heard remarks from Governor Kay Ivey. Staff returned with renewed insight into economic development across Alabama, guidance from site selection professionals, and a clearer understanding of the state’s future priorities.

Shoals Spotlight: Powering Possibility

Reliable power is a critical factor in business decision-making, and the Shoals region has a deep and historic connection to energy generation. The Tennessee Valley Authority was founded in the Shoals, and today continues to serve the region as part of a system built for long-term reliability.

That legacy is supported by strong local power companies that deliver dependable electric service to industrial and commercial users throughout the Shoals. Together, this foundation allows businesses to operate with confidence—knowing their power needs are supported by experience, scale, and local expertise.

Why it matters: Reliable power, delivered by experienced providers, gives businesses the certainty they need to grow without disruption.
