Mulmur's Unsung Heros of Winter

Forget sunrises. For our Public Works team, the day begins at 3 am, as they quietly navigate their homes, avoiding waking their families, before stepping into the cold. Each decision they make, each route they chart, carries the weight of their community's safety. Snowstorms, ice storms, blizzards - whatever Mother Nature throws, they are our warriors on the front lines, clearing the way for safe passage.

A typical winter day begins with their arrival at the Township Office around 3:45 am. Before heading out, they meticulously inspect their equipment. In preparation for ice storms, they equip the plow trucks with chains to enhance traction- a crucial step in ensuring their safety and effectiveness on icy roads. Each of the 6 daytime operators is assigned a specific route, allowing for thorough coverage of the Township's roads. Grader Operators focus on the northern part of the Township, while plow/sander operators handle the southern areas and paved roads. The afternoon shift picks up where the morning shift leaves off, ensuring road conditions are monitored throughout the evening. This strategic division ensures that no area is neglected during snow removal operations.

In Mulmur, where steep hills and deep ravines define the landscape, operating a snowplow or grader is demanding even on a clear day—add a blizzard or ice storm, and it becomes a true test of skill and endurance. Our Public Works staff may not always be in the spotlight, but their contributions to Mulmur are invaluable. As they brave the elements this winter to ensure the safety and well-being of our community, let us take a moment to appreciate their hard work, dedication, and selflessness. They are the true embodiments of the spirit of service, and Mulmur is fortunate to have each and everyone of them as its guardians

So, the next time you see a plow truck rumbling down the road, remember to wave and give thanks to the unseen faces behind the wheel, the silent guardians of your winter mornings.

Celebrate Mulmur's 175th Anniversary and Plant a Tree

Mulmur’s beloved Annual Tree Sale is back - and this year, it's extra special.

As we prepare to celebrate Mulmur's 175th Anniversary, residents are invited to take part in a meaningful and lasting tribute to our community's rich history and natural beauty by planting a tree.

Whether you are a long-time resident or new to the area, planting a tree is a wonderful way to contribute to Mulmur's legacy and help preserve the stunning landscape of the Mulmur Hills for generations to come. Trees not only enhance our environment, but they also symbolize growth, resilience and community spirit. Values that have defined Mulmur for 175 years.

The Mulmur Hills Tree Program offers a variety of native tree species at subsidized prices, while supplies last.

Celebrate. Grow. Remember. Join us in making Mulmur greener, and even more beautiful as we honour 175 years of community and nature.

Green Tip: 'Clothes' the Loop

The average Canadian buys 70 new pieces of clothing per year. Only half of what is bought is used, and the rest is either left unused or thrown out. Textiles, including the fast fashion trend, contribute to over 10 million tonnes of waste in landfill, of which 95% could have been reused or recycled. Follow these tips to work towards keeping them out of the landfill!

1) Shop Sustainably

2) Care for Your Clothes

3) Donate What You No Longer Need

4) Host a Clothing Swap
