Applications now being accepted to fill vacant Councillor position


The Municipality of Brighton is currently seeking applicants to fill one (1) vacant Councillor position for the remaining 2022-2026 term of Council.


Individuals who are interested and eligible in applying, can file their completed applications in person at the Clerk's Department until January 17, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. 


Eligibility to apply:

To apply to fill a vacant Council seat applicants must be:

  • A Canadian citizen;
  • 18 years of age or older;
  • A Resident of the Municipality of Brighton, or the owner or tenant of land in the Municipality of Brighton, or the spouse of such a person and;
  • Not prohibited from voting (as per the Municipal Elections Act) or otherwise by law


Important dates and deadlines:

  • January 2, 2025, at 9:00 a.m. – Application period opens
  • January 17, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. – Application period closes
  • January 18, 2025, at 4:30 p.m. – Last day to withdraw your application
  • January 24, 2025, at 9:30 a.m. – Special Council Meeting for candidate presentations. Please note that Council may or may not make their decision at this meeting.
  • January 27, 2025, at 5:00 p.m. – Special Council Meeting for Council decisions, if required.
  • February 3, 2025, at 6:30 p.m. – Council Meeting where new member will be appointed and take Oath of Office.


Individuals can find the Appointment Application Process on the elections page on the Municipalities website or by visiting the Clerks department in-person at the Municipal Centre located at 35 Alice St. Brighton.

Christmas Tree Collection



The Brighton Public Works department will begin collecting Christmas Trees this week.


  • North of the railway tracks:

January 8, 9, and 10.


  • South of the railway tracks: January 13 ,14, and 15.


Please remove all decorations and have your tree placed at the curb before 7:00 a.m. on January 8, 2025.


Trees can also be taken to the Brighton Landfill for disposal FREE of charge.

Notice of Seasonal Road Closure


Residents are advised that the access road to Mount Hope Cemetery is now closed to vehicular traffic due to the arrival of winter weather. Access to the road will re-open in the Spring.

Join Mayor Ostrander and Council this Friday at the annual New Year's Levee Skate + Social!

Brighton Career Fair


Join us at the Brighton Career Fair and connect with a variety of local employers from several sectors and explore exciting job opportunities.


The first hour of the Career Fair will be for high school students, providing them with the opportunity to connect with employers and explore student job openings.

Details: For children 6 and under, $2.00 per adult and the child skates for free

Senior Skate 

Dates: Wednesdays, 1:30 p.m. to 2:50 p.m.

Dates: Wednesdays, 3:00 p.m. to 4:20 p.m. & Fridays 7:00 p.m. to 8:20pm

Adult Pickup Shinny Hockey 

Dates: Fridays, 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. (for players 35 years and older)

Fridays, 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. (for players 18 to 34 years)

Details: $10.00 per person (No charge for goalies)

The Municipality of Brighton is currently undertaking a 60-day Public Consultation period regarding the establishment of a list for naming of new streets in the Municipality.


Here is how YOU can become involved...

🧐 come up with a name that honors local history, helps to define the area, fosters civic pride, and strengthens the sense of community and,

📨 submit your name suggestion(s), before January 31, 2025 to rwarne@brighton.ca

📝 suggested names will be brought forward to Council to establish a list


ℹ️ Please note that only names submitted through email will be considered.


This List of Potential Street Names will serve the Municipality as a Council-approved list that developers can "choose from" rather than purpose their own names for streets.

The Municipality of Brighton encourages resident involvement through a variety of advisory committees and local boards advise to make recommendations to Council.


The Municipality is currently seeking individuals who are connected to the community, have strong communication skills and, and have the ability to collaborate amongst a team.


To be eligible to participate as a board member, applicants must be:

a Municipality of Brighton resident, be over the age of 18, and/or a property owner, and cannot be employed by the municipality or a local committee.

Heritage Advisory Committee

The Municipality of Brighton is currently seeking one (1) public member to join the Heritage Advisory Committee.


This committee advises Council on preserving, celebrating, and raising awareness of Brighton's cultural heritage for the community's social, cultural, and economic benefit.

Applefest Steering Committee

The Municipality is currently seeking one (1) public members to join the Applefest Steering Committee.


This committee is tasked by Council to plan, organize, and promote the Annual Applefest event with a goal to create a fun, high-quality event that builds community spirit and brings people together.

Congratulations, Cathy!


After 41 years in municipal government (13 with the Municipality of Brighton!), we say goodbye to our Tax Collector, Cathy Kelly!


Cathy started her career with Murray Township (now the City of Quinte West) before joining the Municipality of Brighton's Finance Department in 2011. Her friendly face and extensive knowledge will be missed by the Finance Team, many of whom she has mentored during her time with the Municipality.


Thank you Cathy for your service to the Brighton community and we wish you all the very best in retirement.
