Audre Lorde talking

New Year Greetings,

In this new year, we are experiencing a return to American imperialist incursions and domestic brutality with tragic human consequences. Our recent film preservation work at TWN has uncovered old Newsreel films that feel all too relevant today. So, what can we do? We have to participate in the ways we can against these inhumane and colonial actions. Despite all the cuts to health, regulations, and social services, we have to support what’s right. Even as the arts are defunded and our national history is redacted, we have to keep creating our stories and getting them out there. We were hoping for a peaceful 2026 – but it looks like one full of necessary actions. At least we have a new mayor in New York City!

And in the vein of progressive optimism, our 2026 Production Workshop application is now open. Aspiring and emerging filmmakers are invited to submit their applications by January 23, 2026.

We are also proud to announce the restoration of "A Litany for Survival: The Life and Work of Audre Lorde", the most comprehensive portrait of the legendary feminist and self-described "Black, lesbian, mother, warrior, poet" ever committed to film. Join us for a two-day celebration at the end of the month in Brooklyn! On January 28, Gladys Books & Wine will host a salon-style conversation on preservation as resistance, and on January 29, Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM) will screen the restored film with a Q&A featuring co-directors Ada Gay Griffin and Michelle Parkerson.
