Could You Be Paying Penalties for Power?

"Power Factor" is a measure of how efficiently a customer's load can be served, and penalties are often caused by standard pumps and motors which run at most museums. While these power factor charges are often not clearly disclosed in your utility bill, they can easily be avoided at minimal cost.

The Alliance Purchasing Coop's energy partner,  5 Energy, has identified hundreds of thousands of dollars in penalty savings for their clients. And as part of their cooperative program, they will conduct up to 10 complementary power factor reviews for your museum.

Having reviewed and negotiated a lot of vendor contracts, I've found that there are eight sections you really want to get right. You'll not only start your vendor relationship off on the right foot, but you may also sleep a little better at night.

Check out these three tips from the team at Garland for preparing your roofs for the coming winter season.  And click here to learn more about the Garland program with the Alliance Purchasing Cooperative.
