A Community Where Every Child Can Thrive

By Melanie Pignotti, LCPC, CAC Chief Executive Officer

As we recognize Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day, I find myself reflecting on the values that guided his life’s work: dignity, justice and the inherent worth of every person. These principles are not only central to Dr. King’s legacy; they are at the heart of our vision as a Child Advocacy Center. Our vision of a community where every child can thrive in safety and well‑being is, in many ways, a continuation of the pursuit of equity and human rights that Dr. King championed.

A community cannot truly flourish unless its children are protected, nurtured and given the opportunity to grow without fear or harm. Safety and well‑being are not optional services; they are moral commitments. Dr. King often spoke of “the fierce urgency of now,” a reminder that protecting all children cannot wait for a more convenient moment. Celebrating Wendy's 1,000th Interview

CAC is celebrating our Lead Forensic Interviewer Wendy Diaz, who completed her 1,000th forensic interview in early January.

Wendy is an incredible leader on the Forensic and Advocacy Services (FAS) Team and an amazing human, as well. FAS Director Jessica Montgomery noted: "Just think, you've empowered 1,000 kids!" Inspiration in action!

Wendy has been on staff at CAC since 2018 and serving as a forensic interviewer for five years. "Being an interviewer is an important part of my life," Wendy shared, "because it allows me to provide a safe space for children to talk. Hearing the relief in their voices after they open up is incredibly meaningful to me. Being part of their healing journey keeps me motivated, and I truly love what I do."

A Message of Gratitude

This recent thank-you note arrived at CAC from a client parent whose family received gifts through the Hyatt Secret Santa Project.

Dora's 1st Birthday

Dora is currently training to become a certified Therapy Dog with our Mental Health Services Team. These birthday photos, generously shared by her handler and Bilingual Trauma Therapist Yesenia, capture the gentle, comforting presence Dora brings as she continues her training. Once certified, Dora will support children and families by helping create calm, supportive spaces that foster healing and connection.
