Monthly News & Updates | January 2026 | | 🔦 Spotlight Article: $156 Million Federal Award to Strengthen Rural Health Care in Rhode Island

Rhode Island has been awarded more than $156 million in federal funding over five years to transform health care delivery in the state’s 18 rural communities.
The initiative will expand access to primary care, behavioral health, dental services, and hospital-at-home programs; strengthen Federally Qualified Health Centers; modernize health IT and telehealth; and invest in workforce development, EMS, and mobile services.
The program is guided by the state’s Rural Health Transformation framework and will be finalized with CMS. CTC-RI will support implementation, drawing on its experience in primary care transformation and value-based care.

2026 Quality Improvement Projects — Coming Soon
CTC-RI will launch several new Quality Improvement projects in 2026, with calls for applications starting in the beginning of the year.
Opportunities will include projects focused on complex ADHD care in pediatrics, adolescent substance use assessment and response (ECHO series), improving adult immunization rates, and a pilot using Peer Recovery Specialists in emergency departments to strengthen coordination of care for Alcohol Use Disorder. Additional ECHO series topics will include RI Moms PRN, breastfeeding support, and the 4Ms Model for age-friendly care.

RIAIMH Community Conversation Series: IECMH Approaches to Care – “Keeping the Baby in Mind”
The Rhode Island Association for Infant Mental Health (RIAIMH) 2026 Community Conversation Series is a six-session virtual series focused on Infant and Early Childhood Mental Health (IECMH) and how to support the developmental, emotional, and relational needs of infants, young children, and their families. Sessions highlight research, clinical practice, and policy in Rhode Island, with an emphasis on relationship-based, family-centered, and culturally responsive care.
Sessions 1–3 (1:00–3:00 PM, Zoom – new time):
- Jan 13: The Psychology of Pregnancy & Early Parenthood
- Feb 3: Neuro-relational Development
- Mar 10: DC:0–5 Framework Overview
Cost: Free for members; $40/session for non-members. CEUs: $30/session.

PCMH & IBH Survey Updates for 2025
The Office of the Health Insurance Commissioner (OHIC) has announced several changes to the PCMH and Integrated Behavioral Health (IBH) survey process. Information on the submission requirements can be found on the OHIC website.
The submission deadline has shifted from October to Friday, January 16, 2026, and quality measures will now be reported based on the calendar year (January–December). Insurers will be notified of recognized and qualifying practices by February 27, 2026.
All practices must submit basic practice information, NCQA transformation status, and behavioral health integration questions. Some practices will also need to complete quality measures and cost management sections.

The Rhode Island Department of Health (RIDOH) and the Association of Immunization Managers (AIM) invite providers to a free, live webinar on using motivational interviewing to strengthen vaccine confidence among patients.
This session is part of the six-part Shot of Knowledge: Empowering Providers Through Vaccine Education series and is open to all, even if you did not attend the first webinar.
