Revisions to College Logo
In support of building public awareness and understanding, the College is excited to share our revised logo. The logo features our acronym (COTO) and a new tagline — “regulator of occupational therapists” — that clearly states what we do.

Over the coming weeks, you will see the revised logo implemented across our website, College materials, resources, and other channels. We welcome any feedback to communications@coto.org.
Enterprise System
Technical upgrades at the College
The College is pleased to announce that that this spring we will upgrade to the use of an enterprise system.

An enterprise system is a software application that has cross-organizational capabilities. Our new system will support all programs and services at the College.

What does this mean for our registrants?

The College is taking a staged approach to the implementation, starting this spring with registration renewal, followed by other program functions at the College.

The main item that will change for registrants will be the appearance of related documentation such as survey forms, acknowledgements, and billing pages.

The new system will enable the College team to more effectively respond to inquiries, registrations, and submissions.
Tax Receipts
Download your tax receipts early
As a result of the enterprise system implementation, we anticipate a service interruption in February that will affect the registrant's login area.

We suggest registrants who like to get an early start on their taxes log in as soon as possible and download their tax receipts in case this service interruption impacts their planning.

Updated Annual Learning
Quality Assurance changes coming in 2023
To support continued professional growth and competence, occupational therapists will have two annual learning requirements:

Annual Learning Plan (coming soon)

  • The annual learning plan aims to promote continuous learning and quality improvement for occupational therapists.

  • This 2-part plan consists of a self-assessment and custom learning plan.
  1. First, occupational therapists rate their competence, create goals and select learning activities.
  2. Second, occupational therapists reflect and describe how this new learning has impacted their practice and clients within the service.

  • This new format combines and adapts the previous Self-Assessment and Professional Development Plan tools.

Annual eLearning Module (anticipated release June 2023)

  • This online training module aims to enhance occupational therapists' knowledge about how to apply the Competencies, Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice to evolving occupational therapy practice.

  • This was previously known as the “PREP”.

Stay tuned for more details!

You and Your Practice
Cases & Resources
Case of the Month
Advertising in Occupational Therapy Practice
Riley is starting a private practice to provide occupational therapy services to children and families. She is planning to provide individualized services and start a group therapy program for parents who have toddlers with feeding challenges.

She would like to advertise her practice with local primary care providers and community childcare centres. Riley is also part of an online chat group for mothers in her personal time and is hoping to use her online connections to promote her services.
Virtual Services
Access this resource for guidance about virtual care
Did you know? We recently developed a new page about Virtual Services in occupational therapy.

This resource provides OTs with access to learn more about rules, restrictions, considerations and other telepractice topics.

Occupational therapists providing virtual services are encouraged to review and follow the College's Virtual Services guidance document.
