Driving Solutions to the Global Water Crisis at the World Economic Forum in Davos
|
Pacific Institute President and Head of the CEO Water Mandate Jason Morrison met with Assistant Secretary-General of the United Nations Global Compact Sanda Ojiambo, and CEOs of the Water Resilience Coalition earlier this month at the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting in Davos.
The Water Resilience Coalition, comprised of 32 member companies, is part of the CEO Water Mandate, a partnership between the United Nations Global Compact and the Pacific Institute. The Water Resilience Coalition aims to preserve the world’s freshwater resources through a 2030 strategy with a three-tiered approach:
- Achieve quantifiable positive water impact in 100 water-stressed basins
- Equitable access to water, sanitation, and hygiene for more than 300 million people
- Increase membership to 150 companies by 2030

Replay: Salton Sea Hydrology

On January 10, Pacific Institute Senior Researcher Michael Cohen moderated a panel on Salton Sea hydrology. The webinar featured experts who discussed different approaches to estimating historic and likely future inflows to the Salton Sea and to a habitat restoration project at the Salton Sea. The webinar is the fifth in a series of Salton Sea webinars exploring key themes driving the future of Salton Sea efforts.

13th IWA International Conference on Water Reclamation and Reuse

Shannon Spurlock, Pacific Institute Senior Researcher, presented earlier this month at the 13th IWA International Conference on Water Reclamation and Reuse in Chennai, India.
The conference theme was "Water Reuse: Overcoming the Challenges of Growth and Climate Change". Shannon’s presentations included "Collaboration as the Key to Successful Water Reuse Projects" and "Multi-agency Water Reuse Programs: Lessons for Successful Collaboration."
Shannon emphasized the multi-benefits of collaboration in driving and scaling water reuse and water resilience. Her co-presenters included Eric Rosenblum (Envirospectives, USA), Akiça Bahri (National Agricultural Institute of Tunisia, Tunisia), Ligy Philip (IIT Madras, India), and Pierre van Rensburg (City of Windhoek, Namibia).

Sustainable Water Markets (SWM) Program Annual Symposium

|
Pacific Institute Director of Research, Heather Cooley, was a panelist for the session "Water Resilience and Intersections with Urban Efficiency" at the Sustainable Water Markets (SWM) Program Annual Symposium hosted by the Bren School of Environmental Science & Management at UC Santa Barbara.
The theme of the symposium was "Building Resilience and Equity in Water Market Strategies.”

CEO Water Mandate Growth Continued in 2022
|
|
Building on momentum from 2021 growth, the CEO Water Mandate welcomed 38 new endorsers from a diverse range of geographies and sectors during 2022. This growth brings the total global endorsers to 234, 32 of which are also members of the Water Resilience Coalition. The CEO Water Mandate is a partnership between the Pacific Institute and the United Nations Global Compact. It is one of the significant ways in which the Pacific Institute is influencing corporate water stewardship on a global scale.
Each new company has committed to continuing progress along the CEO Water Mandate's six pillars of water stewardship:
- Direct Operations
- Supply Chain & Watershed Management
- Collective Action
- Community Engagement
- Public Policy
- Transparency
By working with the Pacific Institute to pilot-test innovative tools, elevate the profile of water in the private sector, and organize collective action, these new endorsers are helping to scale water stewardship solutions worldwide. The CEO Water Mandate team looks forward to deepening this action-oriented engagement in 2023.
