RCV had a good group of members & volunteers at the
Arcata Heritage Cafe Luncheon in December
| | Pictured above are RCV members and volunteers & guests. L to R Susan, Eve, Diane, Dave, Susan and Nancy! | | Medicare fraud isn’t new, but it’s becoming more sophisticated—and more costly. Criminals are now using advanced technology, identity theft, and even fake healthcare providers to exploit retirees. The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) estimates that billions are lost every year to fraudulent billing and scams. Seniors often don’t realize they’ve been targeted until months later, when their coverage is denied or personal data has already been stolen. Understanding how modern scams work is the first line of defense in protecting your benefits and identity. More... | | Patti presented lots of information about Medicare fraud issues, too. | | |
It was in 2021 that Roy Grieshaber decided he wanted to join Redwood Coast Village as a member. At the same time he also threw his hat into the volunteer "ring" and he's never looked back.
Roy's journey began with a simple act of kindness—offering a ride to Heidi Johnson, a fellow RCV member in need of transportation. Little did he know, this would be the spark that ignited a wave of joy and connection with countless others who found themselves uplifted by his infectious optimism during trips to personal errands, medical appointments, and shopping escapades.
“I look for ways to stay active & engaged as I grow older, and volunteering for RCV is one of my activities I find most rewarding.
As a volunteer driver, I meet delightful people, discover new neighborhoods and provide an important service to fellow seniors in my community."
Many years ago, Roy's passion for volunteerism also led him to play a pivotal role with the Redwood Art Association, where, as President, he became a beacon of support in their quest for a new home at the charming corner of 6th and F Sts. With his "all hands on deck" approach, he not only helped enhance the gallery’s physical space but also contributed to crafting their Vision and Mission statements, emphasizing the vital role of art in enriching lives and bolstering the economy of Humboldt County.

This month Roy is being honored by a judged member exhibition celebrating the New Year. All members are encouraged to submit up to three titles for this exhibit which will be judged by a LA-based Davey Whitcraft, prior to the February Arts Alive on the 7th. The exhibiting members will also benefit from receiving direct feedback from the judge. In some cases, this will be the first time that they display their work for the public to enjoy. The exhibit runs from January 20th to February 20th. RAA is expecting 60 - 70 pieces as well as five sculptures.
Congratulations, Roy!
