Latest News - January 2023

Happy New Year!

2022 was quite a year. With the support of thirteen generous Host Sites, hundreds of dedicated volunteers, a staff of twelve, kind donors, CT Food Share, and our incredible wider community, over 1.7 million pounds of food was shared through the programs of the Shoreline Soup Kitchens and Pantries (SSKP). This equates to over 1.2 million meals’ worth of food shared throughout SSKP Pantries and Meal Sites.

Again and again, I find myself without adequate words to express the depth of gratitude I have for each person connected with SSKP. 2022 was a year of sharing food and fellowship. 2023 will continue the efforts that began 34 years ago when the Shoreline Soup Cellar was founded.

Opportunities abound to get involved with SSKP. Food is available for neighbors in need at our five pantries and eight meals sites. Volunteers are needed to assist with this important work (more information below). If you are interested in learning more about our collaborative efforts, please visit our website or join us for our Annual Meeting on Monday February 13, 7pm via zoom.

SSKP Annual Meeting on February 13th

Please join us for our Virtual SSKP Annual Meeting on Monday, February 13, 2023.

Join at 6:45 pm to visit with others. The meeting will begin at 7pm for an hour of sharing and updates about all we accomplished together during 2022.

Please email Patty Ward in the SSKP Office to RSVP and receive the link for the gathering.

Where Did All the Food Come From?

Last year SSKP's distributed more pounds of food than ever before - over 1.7 million pounds. But where did it all come from?

The community donated 29% of all the food we shared. We are so grateful for these incredible year-round donations!

We obtained just over half of the food distributed last year from our local food bank, CT Food Share. The remainder - 19% - was purchased by SSKP, thanks to the generous donations of those who support us.

We are so grateful to all our donors who provided funds to purchase food for our pantries!
