CATTLE ARE "UP-CYCLERS"


Among all the discussion about efficiency and sustainability in food production, beef's critics often leave out a critical point-cattle eat things we cannot. They turn grass, corn stalks and byproducts such as distillers' grains into high-quality protein for human consumption.



TRAINING ADVOCATES FOR AGRICULTURE

Texas A&M University has the largest Department of Animal Science in the country and thirty years ago most of those students came off ranches or had some type of agriculture background. Many of the students today are quite different.

Dr. Rhonda Miller was among four named Faculty Fellows by Texas A&M AgriLife Research at the award ceremony on 
Jan. 9, 2018.


  

WILDFIRE RESPONSE TEAM RECOGNIZED

The actions of a Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service team in the wake of the devastating March wildfires earned them recognition as Superior Service award winners.




EASTWOOD RECEIVES VICE CHANCELLOR'S EXCELLENCE AWARD

Clay Eastwood received the award for graduate student teaching. The award recognizes graduate students for their outstanding contribution to the undergraduate teaching program. 



SIMTH, FORREST RECEIVE 2017 VICE CHANCELLOR'S EXCELLENCE AWARDS

Dr. Stephen B. Smith received the award in the research category while Dr. David Forrest received the award for special services at the award ceremony on 
Jan. 9, 2018.

A common wintertime pest in cattle herds - lice - can suck money from producers' pockets, said Dr. Jason Banta, Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service beef cattle specialist, Overton.
