Happy New Year! We have exciting news for the new year--a new peer group. We look forward to beginning the Managers Peer Group on Wednesday, January 11, 2017. The Managers Peer Group will be held on the 2nd Wednesday of the month, from noon to 1 p.m. Area nonprofit professionals in the roles of middle and program management are invited to attend peer group. Hiring Soon for New Community Foundation Staff Position
The Community Foundation is hiring a grant director to lead the operational and strategic aspects of our grantmaking. This is a new position intended to provide additional staffing and focus on grants at the Community Foundation. The grant director will be a member of the leadership team and will report to Karla Twedt-Ball, Senior Vice President, Programs and Community Investment. The job description and application information will be available on January 13, with applications due on February 6.

Community Foundation Announces Winter Grant Cycle
The Greater Cedar Rapids Community Foundation announces its first grant cycle for 2017 for local charitable nonprofits. Applications will be accepted through Wednesday, February 15, 2017, and grants will be awarded to organizations that enhance the quality of lifein Linn County.
The Community Foundation accepts grant applications online at www.gcrcf.org. The online grant portal will open on Friday, January 20, 2017. More information about funding opportunities, as well as a video tutorial to learn the online application system, can be found at www.gcrcf.org.

Community Foundation Pre-App Briefing
Two pre-application grant briefings will be offered to grant writers that will highlight grant opportunities for the year and provide an overview of the application process.  The optional briefings will include discussion of minor changes to the process of uploading documents as a part of the online application, revisions in Organizational Development Fund guidelines, and updates to the Grant Opportunity Chart for 2017.  These will be held on Thursday, January 26, at 6 p.m. and Friday, January 27, at noon at the Greater Cedar Rapids Community Foundation, 324 3rd St. SE, downtown Cedar Rapids.  Please RSVP to [email protected].
 
2017 Nonprofit Summit Organizers Seeking Keynote Speakers
Organizers of the Iowa Nopnrofit Summit are seeking keynote presenters for the 2017 summit scheduled for October 24-25, 2017, in Altoona, Iowa. Speakers who are willing to present one 50- to 60-minute plenary session as well as one, two, or three 75-minute workshop sessions can submit a proposal to be considered by the organizers. Proposals must be submitted by February 1, 2017. Forms and more information here.

Rockwell Collins Volunteer Fair
The Rockwell Collins Women's Forum is hosting a Volunteer Fair on Tuesday, February 14, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Rockwell Collins Rec Center, 400 Collins Road in Cedar Rapids. All area nonprofits are welcome to set-up a booth and introduce Rockwell Collins employees to the exciting ways they can get involved in our community. If you would like a booth at the Volunteer Fair, please email Amber Dietrich at [email protected] by Friday, February 3. Please provide the name of your organization and your contact information.

Volunteer Iowa Accepting Applications for AmeriCorp VISTA members
Volunteer Iowa is currently accepting applications from organizations interested in hosting a year-long AmeriCorps VISTA member in the following areas: education and/or economic opportunity in rural communities (population under 50,000 and not adjacent to a city over 50,000); and addressing the opioid epidemic. VISTA members provide a year of full-time service conducting capacity building activities for nonprofits, schools, and government organizations. To host a member beginning service in April, applications are due January 13, 2017. To apply, please review information here.

Cedar Rapids saw the second highest crest of the Cedar River on record in September 2016. The Economic Alliance has teamed up with the City of Cedar Rapids for a multi-part series to explore the various aspects of disaster preparation and planning.
