Dear Beloved,
A new year has dawned and with it, for many of us, came a wave of cold weather that convinced us that we would never want to live in Alaska.
Upon returning to Denver after our Romero House Pilgrimage to Guatemala and El Salvador, we were slapped in the face with a -3 degree temperature (100 degree shift from where we were). A message in my text read, “If you’ve ever said 'I’ll do that when hell freezes over!,' You’re scheduled to do that tomorrow!”
So much to do! I hope that you enjoyed your indoor activities this month and accomplished all those tasks that were just waiting for such an opportunity to force your hand to finish.
In traveling around the country these past several months, I have come away once again inspired by the loving Ecumenical Catholic communities that make up who we are: Communities of open and loving people who care so much about one another, about those suffering from exclusion, those who are on the streets and those who are refugees and immigrants awaiting official welcome into our country. All are burdened by our political and religious divisions and are especially praying for peace in Gaza and Ukraine.
When I think of division, just this month we experienced the pain and loss connected to the communities of All Saints and Sr. Thea Bowman who have decided to leave our Communion.
In these months leading up to our Holy Synod, we hope to fully engage in listening deeply to Holy Wisdom and how she is calling us to be, how to organize ourselves and how to best serve the world in these days that are given to us.
Your Brother in the Vineyard....
